Problem With RAWs in VirtualDubMod

Post by n3ko-chan » Sat Mar 29, 2008 12:53 pm

Alrighty, I've got a problem here that hopefully someone here can help me with.

A few months ago or so I had a friend who was looking for the RAWs of Ouran High School Host Club and after I found an active torrent I decided "Oh why the heck not" and decided to download the torrent for myself as well. However over a month after I downloaded it I realized that when I attempted to import it into VirtualDubMod to convert the files into another codec, I got an error message that said

"Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'H264' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this video"

How might I fix this? Can it be fixed? And if it can would it just be a lot less effort to wait until later this year when the US releases' DVDs come out?

Sounds like you're not using DirectShowSource to open it, because that should work.

When I try to open it I don't have the AviSynth Templates feature at the bottom.

Erm in case my statement wasn't obvious enough, I wish to know how to get the AviSynth Template feature/DirectShowSource at the bottom of my open window.

I just had a similar problem no more than 5 minutes ago and stumbled onto this thread in an attempt to fix it.

You can get the Template drop down menu to appear if you select "Open video file via AviSynth..." if you are using the 1.5.4.1 version of Virtualdubmod (Cause it looks like LivingFlame is using a slightly newer version than me, and I'm assuming your using one closer to my version because I dont get the Template drop down menu ether when trying to open a video file the normal way).

Just select DirectShowSource like LivingFlame said and open your video.

P.S. This also fixed my problem.

I tried this when LivingFlame first showed me this, I tried to open it in both the regular open feature and the AviSynth open feature, and while the AviSynth version did give me the option and when opened didn't give me an error message, the viewing window was blank and would not change.

At the very least, Illwilledmarine, I'm happy your problem was solved.

Well, my version is kind of older, so I thought I'd try to help too.

First of all, go to file - open via avisynth. Things are pretty obvious, and they should normally be in most Vdub versions:

If they aren't, you can always try doing it with the script editor. Try to open the file via avisynth, and once you get the error message, go to "Tools - Script Editor". There, change "AVISource" to "DirectShowSource", so it should be like this:

If the problem still consists after that, you're obviously missing any form of .h264 codecs. Downloading CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) from here should fix that.

If nothing mentioned above works, you're most probably doing something wrong.

Hope that helped.
And remember.
CtS for most helpful 2009. :p

Is there a guide to using Vdub mod anywhere?

I just got Vdub mod by reference from another editor.

But I'm having trouble getting the hang of it.

I'd like to read a guide if there is one.
Everything came from nothing, therefore everything is nothing.

There's nothing to worry about.
