help avi files

when i use avi files on premier, the audio is there but no video...i think its a problem w/ my codecs, i cant seem to play avi files on my media player too...i already downloaded divx and xvid but to no avail. it cant be a problem w/ my pc specs, my system runs on 1.38ghz cor2 duo, 1gb ddr2 ram, geforce 7200, 80gb hd...can anyone help me?! plz
