AE can't find my codecs

Post by DriftRoot » Fri Sep 07, 2007 11:08 am

I'm all ready to render some stuff, and I realize that AE isn't giving me the option of choosing the codecs I need to use. All that's offered are the generic codecs I guess it installs when IT installs, none of which are very nice.

Premiere was always able to pull up all of my codecs without a problem. Same thing with VDM. Why is AE balking and how do I fix this? I hope I don't have to try and reinstall it. :(

What do you need? I mean... if it´s only RGB stuff you can use Uncompressed, right?

But yeah that´s a real problem. Uhm btw.:
Why does AE don´t detect the Alpha Channel at my RGBA Lagarith eyports anymore? I mean.... Yeah I tried "with interprete footage", but it simply doesn´t give me a chance to activate the alpha. I know it used to do it some time ago.
Maybe there is a connection. Between these two problems.
I hope I don't have to try and reinstall it.

I should have said "I hope I don't have to reinstall it." There's no "try" involved. And I don't think this would solve the problem anyways. No other programs have ever had trouble finding my codecs.

I need to bring AVI clips from AE into a Premiere project, but Premiere had a seizure every time I would go to export my movie with these clips. I figured this was because whatever AE was doing to my rendered comps was incompatible with what I'm trying to do in Premiere, so for experimentation purposes I forced AE to use Cinepak (I have no idea what it was doing when I wasn't watching). Even though I was then able to export from Premiere, it wasn't very pretty. I would love to use Huff all around, but AE isn't giving Huff as an option.

Maybe my project settings somewhere else in AE are off, and that's why I can't see most of the codecs Premiere and VDM can pull up? Everything's RGB and everything's just plain raster-based graphics (I'm not bringing in other video files for my comps).

Maybe the real issue is that Premiere is crashing when trying to export a movie that uses my uncompressed AVI files from AE. The clips perform 100% fine in every other program out there. It crashes with hardly any provocation, btw, black video cross dissolving onto my AE clip + export = crash. This is nothing new, for me, Premiere also is sometimes adverse to exporting anything with white video. 1% gray video is fine, 0% gray is a toss up.

The random crash is because your using too much ram on your system all at once, and then poof it will just close your program. It was doing that with me when i had 35 avs scripts loaded all at once and i was doing an export. Wasn't fun.

To your problem though, I have no clue.

In AE you are using the "make movie" option aren't you in the Composition pull down menu.
