I see, the way I was taught to use it was to replace phrases that would otherwise be akward to pronounce, such as Smiths's...so I thought that this rule was used whenever you had s's or z's, etc...Scintilla wrote: In reality, the only time you can just tack on an apostrophe and be done with it is when your noun is PLURAL and ends in S.
