Black Video, why?! :(

Post by meleechampion » Thu Mar 22, 2007 1:25 am

Hello all. I've been following this guide to rip my dvds. It's all been great, I've gathered the clips I want to use, etc etc. Well, when I go to use them in Premiere Pro I can't see them in the sequence. I can preview the clips just fine (by double clicking them after importing them) but when I try to slot them into the timeline they're just black video. Any ideas what problem I might have?

What codec did you use to compress the clips? The ones that guide suggests (HuffYUV and Lagarith, or MJPEG if you're doing the swap method) don't usually have this problem.

They're all nice big Lagarith clips. I guess I should mention some other settings? Would that help? APP is set up as a 24fps video for windows, progressive (I used forcedFILM) so no field order. My clips are 23.976fps. I tried setting up another project file just to see if they'd work in a 23.98fps project file and it still didn't work.

For all the troubleshooting detectives out there, another item of interest? I opened up Vegas 7 and started a project. The clips work beautifully in there! >_< I'd just as soon edit in Vegas but I know NOTHING about it, and I already know how to do everything I need to know how to do in Premiere, so I'd really rather not.

was "Always Suggest RGB mode for Output" selected when you made the clips

No, it wasn't. I deleted the old test clip and made two new ones. One with it checked, one without. They both work (and so do the rest of the other clips I made with it unchecked). That sure was frusturating, and a waste of good sleeping time. I wonder why it wasn't working? Maybe APP was sleeping? Well, that forum post I made last night proves I wasn't dreaming it all up... *sigh*

Enough to make me want to rip my hair out at 3am? Yes.
Enough to keep me from making the Jacon deadline? Maybe.
Enough to stop me from trying? Hellz naw.

Thanks for all of your help guys.
