Compatibility Windows Premiere -> Mac Premiere

Post by DarkAlex » Tue Apr 10, 2007 10:27 pm

I've been working on the same project off and on (mostly off) for the last 3-5 years. To give you some idea of a time frame, it's a Kenshin AMV from before Kenshin was played on TV stateside but after the dubbed DVDs came out, and it uses "Somewhere over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World" from when IZ was still alive. I have it about 2/3 done in an early version of Adobe Premiere (somewhere between 4 and 6, leaning towards 4) on my WindowsME PC. I did the RAW footage trick with the low res MPEG placeholders. However, a lot has changed since I started working on it. I've gone away to college where I only have my Mac (OS 10.4). It's the one of the last of the PowerPC Powerbook versions, so I can't dual boot. Therefore, I can't run the version of Adobe Premiere that I have on my Mac, but might have access to some form of student discount for a newer Mac-compatible version.

So the questions are:
1) If I copied the low-res MPEG placeholder movies and the project file over while maintaining the folder heirarchy, would it be possible to get the project file to work in a version of Premiere on my Mac (say, 6.5?)
2) Once the AMV is finished, would it be possible to go backwards to the PC, which still has the RAW footage for the final step + rendering?

The second question is less essential, as I could rip the DVDs onto my Mac if necessary. I mean, if I actually worked on it this AMV would be about a week from being done. I already went through the first Arc and pulled out all the usable footage. Then I placed some of the scenes where they should be, and now I'm watching the unused footage and placing it if it fits. After that it would be tweaking scene transitions and special effects until I got it the way I wanted it, which admittedly could take quite a bit of time.

So would it work?
