NO PROGRAM CAN MAKE AN AMV, YOU CAN MAKE AMVs!

Thanks for attention... So time to get again a bit serious:

After Effects is a pure effect program. I´ve edited a bit in it (like in Premiere) for small segements and believe me: It´s not worth it for editing (but it is worth the money for making effects).

Buy Adobe Premiere Pro for editing. You´ll thank.

It can, but it is high more complicated and just not build for that sort of editing.

Take a look at the links (you might spare some money with the big pack) because of the prize:

after effects is more of something you would do just the effects and motion in. many of us do use after effects, but not for the initial editing.
premiere for editing, after effects for motion graphics.

It really depends on the kind of videos you want to make. If you want to be making more "traditional" AMV's (and by this, I dont just mean like, ONLY straight cuts and fades. Premiere is capable of a LOT) then I would definitely reccommend Premiere. When a lot of people think "After Effects" they think "ooo this is what I need to make my video AWESOME" but then they get in there and have no clue what it is they actually WANT to do. There's no "make cool effects" button in AE. But if you do know the kind of video you want will take full advantage of AE (meaning, purely motion graphics, compositing, etc.) and are ready to deal with the hardships of editing long pieces in it, then I'd say go for it. (Examples of videos made purely or almost purely in AE: Bleach Technique Beat, Metro's track in RoS3, True Fiction, <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... Silence, or even simpler videos like Sex and Caramel.) Just know that doing audio timing/synching in AE is really friggin frustrating and tedious.

Well, you can make traditional video in After effect, but it more complicated and Premiere is better for that.. The right too for the right job as it were...

My first few vids were also made using only after effects, I found that I now use both premiere and after effects as editing is quicker and easier in premeire. On the flip side I thought you could reach a higher level of acuracy on the rythem sync in aa through using another audio program to find the nodes and the time slider in aa. If you are just starting out aa for a complete edit will probably take longer. I encoded this vid with wmm because I was/am a lazy shmuck, on that note I personally think the initial rendering engine of aa is better than premieres, might be wrong on that but don't think it is saying much as the engine in premiere suck anyways.
