Premiere CS3 Crashing/Closing Randomly

I don't have a ton of experience, but if you can use footage uncompressed, do it. It seems to clear up nearly all of the crashing issues you might have. Granted it means a lot more prep time before editting a video, but I feel it's worth it.

For example: I have the entire series of 26eps for a current project output to lagarith lossless files (no audio), and my song imported in PCM. Ends up being ~150gb for everything, but I've yet to have Premiere crap out on me.

I've heard that there's a VFAPI application in amvap3.0beta which can make quick .avi's but I can't use it as that version of the amvapp doesn't work for me anyway it might be a good interim solution for you.
Fixed. Yeah, that quite solves problems with avs scripts, but editing directly with the .avs should work fine too. I suggest just to have your footage cropped and resized in the script, while editing. Any other filter should be commented out, when you find a scripts that works good to filter your source. When you're done with editing, save the project, close AP, uncomment the filters, save the avs, reopen the project and export. This way you have a fast editing. I can assure you that even a tomsmocomp might slower too much or crash premiere...

what I was saying and prolly wasn't clear is - It crashes when there is nothing in the script at all except de-interlacing... and then it also crashes when that's commented out too. :\ it doesn't matter if i use telecide, fielddeinterlace or tomsmocomp it stil crashes.
I also don't have the amount of memory avs can use limited so that shouldn't be an issue on my system but is sometimes for others.

That's wry I usually edit from lossless i gave up saving after every action (inclding scrolling) after i stopped using WMM

It might be worth trying but my computer doesn't have enough space for that. Especially not with the series being 51 episodes long. Though I never did that method because I figured that the avis would be so large it would tax the ram and risk the computer crashing.

Well the good news is you can get a 300-400gb seagate sata300 HDD for under $150 nowadays if you really need to

I'm eyeing biting the bullet and just buying one of those new WD 1TB drives this spring.
