Footage is randomly being squished

Post by DriftRoot » Thu May 17, 2007 7:44 pm

I've got some Advent Children footage here that is merrily playing along when, suddenly, it squishes itself horizontally by just a tad, then unsquishes, then squishes again. I only notice this when I export the movie from Premiere and play it back somewhere else: WMM, VDM, etc. Further, this is only occurring with footage taken from a specific scene (Sephiroth in the flames) that happens to be below two other layers containing clips. I've sliced this flame footage up into three separate clips (within Premiere), so it's all from the same file. No special effects/opacity/motion tweaks have been applied to the footage in this problem area. There are transitions, but that's par for the course and shouldn't be a problem. This squishing is not occurring anywhere else in my project, which contains far worse compositing scenarios.

Exportation experimentation produced the following results:
1. Still squishes when I export a movie of the Sephiroth footage, unclipped, at the same place on the timeline with all other layers' visibility turned off.
2. No squish when I move the Sephiroth clips somewhere else on the timeline.
3. No squish when I physically remove the footage that is overlayed on the Sephiroth clips OR move the Sephiroth clips above the other footage.

My current theory: The footage overlayed on Seph in the flames is interfering with the PAR/DAR of everything underneath, even when it's not technically active in the timeline. I don't know why or how or what to do to stop it, though, and any advice is appreciated.

check the source that the scene is coming from. play the script if you're using one

I did check the source - see above - and I'm not using a script. The squish factor occurs when this particular footage is forced to interact with some other particular footage on a higher video track.

I suppose I should check a few other things before complaining further. Like...does other footage squish like this when placed in the same position? Does exporting with something other than Huffy fix the problem? Can I make this scene as a separate sequence and put it on the timeline like ThAT and have it work? Drat, there goes my capital h not working again... :x

Worst case scenario is I'll have to somehow rebuild the scene with squishing footage on top, where it doesn't seem to squish.

not sure whats going on but if it is just the seph flame scene i would also try just making a lossless version of the clip in vdub and import it as a seperate clip in premiere

This is so bizarre, my capital h key is only sometimes working - sometimes being when I forget it's not working. -_-

H...it just did it again...

OK, so, the problem was the exportation process, as I kind of figured, specifically the exportation settings for Huffyuv (my h...no it's not back, what the heck???). Not sure which was the bad one(s) because I changed a few all at once, but at least it's quit squishing. :)

hhhhhhhhhh
H

So apparently if I hit Shift and H fast enough, I can get it to capitalize. My G key is doing the same thing. I knew that spilled coffee was going to come back to haunt me one day.
