After Effects: Smaller exports?

Post by CrackTheSky » Fri Nov 16, 2007 8:54 pm

As some of you probably know, I'm a Vegas user. So when I decide to do stuff in AE, I have to export a loop from Vegas and put that into AE to work on it, then export my video out of AE and put it back into Vegas. The thing is, there aren't any good codecs for exporting...Huffy and Lagarith aren't available, so I'm forced to export uncompressed from AE. It's not a *huge* problem, I can always just take that video and compress it to Lagarith using VDubMod afterwards if I'm aching for space or something, I was just wondering if there's something I'm missing? Is there a way to get AE to export video to an editable codec?

Addendum: I'm using AE 7.0.

Wtf? How can you not export using Lagarith or HuffUV? I always use those. Are you going to the Render Queue or something like Make Movie?

Ok in your renderlist stands wich codec you currently use. Click on it. A dialog opens.
Under "video output" there is a little button with "format-options" (sry my version is in german). Click the button choose your codec. Choose Lagarith ;)
You can choose all of your codecs there. If both looseless codecs are not avaible than there is something wrong.

... Just a thought. Maybe you can work with looseless .mov (if it can be looseless I don´t know, aks Greg) in Vegas?
You can find me on YT under "Bauzi514". Subscribe to never miss my AMV releases. :amv:

You are exporting by way of Composition --> Make Movie... (Ctrl+M), right?

disclaimer: I have After Effects 6.0 Standard, not 7.0

I had this problem myself too just a while ago, you just have go to render list and drag your composition into it, then all the codecs and stuff are available in AE.

I made some screenshots form version 7.0, hope it helps:
1) Go to Composition > Make Movie (Ctrl+M)

2) Click on "Lossless"

3) Click on "Format Options"

4) Choose Huffyuv.
