Premiere CS3 Crashing/Closing Randomly

Yeah yeah I know, AP crashing, no surprise there. Anyway; all of a sudden during my editing Premiere keeps crashing. When I try to move a clip to the timeline it will either say it has to close or just close without saying anything. Other times while skimming htrough an episode for a clip I need it won't show me the footage anymore, just some still frame no matter where I scan on the clip and even switching clips doesn't change it.

the only thing I'm doing different form earlier is I'm working with individual episodes now wheras before I was just working with openings and endings (though they were all put together into one file so the length is similar ot an episode).

This whole thing may sound vague so I apologize, just trying to root out the problem so I can get back to editing. I'll provide whatever information you ask that I can get.

actually Premiere Pro 1.5 does the exact same thing (with not warning) if I edit with avs or bait and switch. even if I only have deinterlacing in the script ;_;
Are you editing using avs?

Other than the AMVapp nothing has been installed since Pro was installed on my computer.

And yes I am editing in avs files.

i asked around on #amv fot 3 days and couldn't get a fix/answer
so if you find a solution let me know, cause i'm sick of making huge lossless files to edit with.

I've heard that there's a VPAVI(?) application in amvap3.0beta which can make quick .avi's but I can't use it as that version of the amvapp doesn't work for me

anyway it might be a good interim solution for you.

Fixed. Yeah, that quite solves problems with avs scripts, but editing directly with the .avs should work fine too. I suggest just to have your footage cropped and resized in the script, while editing. Any other filter should be commented out, when you find a scripts that works good to filter your source. When you're done with editing, save the project, close AP, uncomment the filters, save the avs, reopen the project and export. This way you have a fast editing. I can assure you that even a tomsmocomp might slower too much or crash premiere...

This is precisely what I do. I was presuming the new crashing was such that previous editing habits didn't use to crash it though.

I will say that Premiere always crashes/closes on me. It has for ten years, and it's likely to continue to do so for another ten. It just means I save every cut.

Cool thanks I'll give it a shot.

Two questions though;

1. For resizing what size would you recomend taking it down to? Obviously it's currently at 720x480 and I was probably going to take it down to 360x240 but would smaller be better?

2. My scripts are pretty simple at the moment, mostly they just remove interlacing, dot crawl etc etc so I'll take that stuff out. But for cropping I'm afraid I don't follow, do you mean crop the footage itself or make d2vs and avs files shorter? (i.e. since they are full episodes make each avs only half an episode in length)

Man I hope it's not the later of those, since this is Full Metal Alchemist and that would mean 102 avs files.

I just go down to 640x480. Never need to go smaller, really.

Cropping the footage itself. It's best to leave deinterlacing and cropping commands in because otherwise you won't get an accurate preview. But yeah, comment out dot crawl, sharpen, etc, etc in. Keep deinterlacing because it can affect how your effects show up.

Well that seems to have solved the it somewhat as it now seems to occur less frequently (formerly I couldn't even put one clip on the timeline). But it's still occassionally happening and enough so that I have to reopen Premiere at least six or seven times within half an hour.

Any other ideas on how I can cut this problem down?
