New at making AMVs...

Post by Loser626 » Mon Jun 25, 2007 12:48 am

Okay, so I've read some tutorials and watched some examples on You Tube and I think I get the general concept on how to make an AMV. Next comes the hands-on approach where I mess around a lot with various controls to learn what they do... and I've already run into a problem.

I am using windows Movie Maker 2.0... and I am trying to anchor a specific clip to a specific part of the song, only problem is it won't move over. It's almost as its forcing me to start from beginning to end... but I don't want to. If I insert blank clips just to move the clip where I want, It's just going to get pushed around when I start editing the clips that come before it and therefore, will screw up what I was trying to do in the first place. Is there any way to anchor them down or am I already screwed?

Thanks for the help,
Loser

WMM is a linear editor. Meaning you have to do everything in order. It's also very frame inaccurate. Most other software people around here use are NLE's or non-linear editors - meaning you can freely move around the timeline doing sections as you please (personally, i find the ability to work on multile parts of a video at once one of the best ways to keep focused on getting work completed faster without compromising quality). Your best bet is to use software that's a bit more capible if you want to edit non-linearly. There are literally hundreds of threads about other editing software, so i won't bother listing them here. search around a bit and you'll find what you need.

Cool, thanks. Do you know if those threads list any freeware that are NLEs? (College = not cheap :D )

I think I know what your talkin bout. I'm gonna add my 2 cents in, if you don't mind, Bashar. If you're also trying to time it, you can click on the specific video segment in the timeline and split it (split option is in the toolbar). I use WMM2 also.

And if that wasn't what you were goin for... heh. Sorry. BUT, if you didn't kn9ow that, congrats, you learn somethin new everyday.
I can claim the title as being the first person on a-m-v.org to submit an AMV with the artist KJ-52 on it. Yay. Hahaha.
Where my jello? I need it to go with my Cola, Rice, Puddin, Steak, macoroni, apple, peanut butter, plastic, baking soda, and cheese sandwhich!

You can Vegas cheap here. Although, it's just the installing software but I think that's all you need.

100$

Frankly, it's the only way I can get anything like that since I'm in highschool.

For some reason I like using WMM, I find it very user-friendly.
The way I get around inserting clips in the middle of the song is to insert a still picture, and make that the length of the whole song. To insert a clip I put the pointer (?) there and cut the pic, and drag and drop. 8-)

check out some PC-mag CD's - usually ULEAd or something will give away older versions of there video editing software to entice you to buy the newer ones.
