Go to tools/options/advanced and turn codecs on and off at random until you find the one's that are screwing you up.

I used to get that problem all the time,it made my computer really slow so I tried restarting it but that doesn't help.Had a look at how much free space my computer had left.98GB used.13GB free space

Started deleting alot of garbage and freed up at least 30GB and THEN windows movie maker worked. But still freezes and won't close when I work on a project for a few hours :\ so started deleting files I didnt really need to see if I could free up more space. It worked normal after that which was good :D

I'm not an expert at computers but sometimes lack of free space might affect some programs. So you could always try that.

I get that same exact error message, and it shuts down right after that. Usually wmm has been a good program for me, but I have no idea why its doing that now. The problem comes up after I try to drag video to the timeline, and I don't know of any other decent free video editing programs. If someone can clearly explain how to fix this, that'd be great!

when i first started to use WMM i had that problem too

and i discovered that the error window appeared when i put the cursor in a video from the library for more than 3 seconds hahahah

i know... its weird but now i get used to just see the video that i want to put in the timeline and take it fast XD

I had exactly the same problem. I freed up my hardrive to about 40mb and I was amazed at the change. Now it doesn't freeze at all, i've tested it. ^^
