Problem saving movie file, not the typical problem

Post by SergeTheRadicalDreamer » Thu Apr 26, 2007 10:27 pm

I want to start this off by saying WMM is the worst program of any type I have ever used. Ever. I've been working on a project for a few weeks now and have been saving movie files periodically to check the quality. It was never a problem until today. It doesnt crash when I try to save one, or give me an error message, rather the estimated time to save starts at a crazy number (something like 200 minutes) and just keeps climbing, and climbing, and climbing... Theoretically I could possibly save a movie file this way, but it would take many hours at least. I saved a movie file earlier today and it worked fine. Anybody got any ideas? Please help, I've spent a lot of time on this and I'm almost done!

Does it hang up at one particular point? Check what percent it stops and and try to find that part in your project. When I had this happen, it was usually a clip that WMM does not like.

Are all your clips encoded with a codec like Huffyuv?

It doesn't even reach one percent, it starts slow and seems to just get slower and slower :( . I think I converted some of my clips with Xvid (a no-no, I know, but it didnt have a problem with that earlier today) and the rest I downloaded so I dont know what codec was used, though I should note that WMM had no problem handling these clips earlier today either. Oh, and I checked my ram and that was fine (at least before I started saving the movie file, if I did it during it would probably freeze my computer)

And suddenly it works again :?... thanks for the help anyway though, knowing WMM I'll probably be back on here in a few minutes with another question

Urg, sorry for triple posting, but I spoke too soon. It saved my video but it only plays the first clip. The rest of it is a black screen with the music playing. There is no emoticon that adequatley expresses my frustration...

You got a full encode, but only one clip plays. Sorry, but I never had that happen. I think it's either WMM being it's usual self, or you got some footage converted in a codec that WMM does not like.

I looked it up on the WMM website and its telling me to save my movie in smaller pieces, then combine the clips. So my new questions are, will this decrease the visual quality of my video? And, does anybody have any recommendations for a better editing program?

Well thanks, I'll be sure to check the other threads next time. Giving how much the program crashes I imagine it must be a popular question.
