Avid as an editing program for AMVs?

Post by bladesfire » Sat Jul 05, 2008 2:20 pm

Wow, this sounds like such a silly question....but in short I'm wondering if anyone has any input regarding using Avid as an editing program for AMVs.

Why you would want to spend that much money to make AMVs, I have no idea. But yes, you could very well do it. There is a reason it's at the top end of the industry.

Dunno what you really want me to say.

I have no idea how much Avid is, but we already spend a lot of money on DVDs. It's just spending it all at once instead of separately.

I've worked some with Avid. If you're willing to deal with the same format restrictions as Final Cut (i.e. using QuickTime as your import method), it's really no different than any other NLE.

Use it if you like it, use something else if you don't. I personally prefer Premiere on Windows and FCP on OS X, but if you like Avid, go right ahead.

It's what you do with the tools you have that matters, not what tools you use.

Lol, I think I forgot to say I'm already going to have the program...XD Yeah, I'd never buy it just to make AMVs.

Though I am moreso wondering how it works for AMVs or should I get another program as well?

That makes me feel better, lol. It would have all the capabilities of, if not more than, any other NLE on the market. Though Lantis is absolutely right; it has a lot more to do with how you use the tools than what tools you have.

Yea...you haven't seen the difference between the price tags...

Well, if you want a small price comparison, then here are some retail prices for you:

Magix Movie Edit Pro 14 Plus - $90
Pinnacle Studio Ultimate version 12 - $130
Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8 - $400
Sony Vegas Pro 8.0 - $550
Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 - $800
Avid Media Composer - $2500

See my point now? And that's just for the software. You can buy whole systems (think $10000-$20000+) dedicated to being Avid powerhouses.
... yea ...

Yeah, Avid is REALLY expensive. Because it's industry standard it can be.

And it's not about the tools to an extent. Buying a tablet doesn't make you a digital artist, final cut does not make you a pro editor. But I used Nero for all of my videos- it doesn't even have layers and it freezes and dies if you cut clips too short. Though there are way too many people who make media an excuse for their poor work, which doesn't fly in my book. Learn technique then you can buy yourself a fancy program is my feeling about it. :3

you're editing amvs, normal nles and/or after effects/photoshop are perfectly sufficient.
no need to be that pretentious mate.
and yes, avid is a great program and I'm currently getting the hang of it (for job purposes tho), just think about what it's made for.
