Moving between After Effects and Premiere Pro without export

Post by Swift_Warrior » Sun Jun 07, 2009 3:29 pm

I looked in the help file of adobe and it said I should be able to basically do stuff in AE, then just copy/paste into premiere pro and the effects i applied will be shown there as a new layer... however when I do this, the effects completely dissapear as if they didnt exist...

Steps I did:
1.Copy whatever footage i wanted to edit with AE
2.Create new composition in AE
3. Edit>Paste
4.Apply the wanted effects
5.Copy AE timeline layers
6.Go to premiere pro and edit> paste insert
7.New layer created in Premiere at the time marker with the footage in AE (minus the effects)

THis is with CS3...

Are the effects you're using supported by Premiere? Some AE effects only work in AE. In that sense, you are better off editing your entire video (sans effects) in Premiere, and then copying over to AE to do your effects and final export. Personally, when I edited, I edited the scenes I wanted to apply effects to in a separate sequence in Premiere. Opened the project in AE, loaded that sequence, did the effects and exported it out and re-imported it into Premiere. Saved a lot of hassle.

if you have the production premium or master bundle of cs3, you should have dynamic link. this allows you to import ae compositions into a pp timeline, or pp sequences into an ae composition.

file > dynamic link > import whatever (ae/pp cs4, but i think it's the same in cs3)

copy/pasting preserves effects like fades, dissolves, (some) blurs and levels adjustments.

no, as far as i know you need to have one of those bundles. to be honest, dynamic link wasn't that amazing in cs3. it's better in cs4, but if i were you i'd read the section of the manual on 'project link' and be organised with your renders.

even when you use dynamic link you need to render proxies for your comps and render your premiere timeline, so it doesn't make much difference either way.
