Hi all,
Newcomer here and a quick question for you on anime footage. I'm trying to begin my first project and I'm not sure which format is best:
(1) Buy DVD and capture footage from DVD
or
(2) Buy/Download episode from Itunes/Amazon (etc) and upload the footage
Anyone have preferences/reasons as to which method is best?
Should be trying this first project out with FCP as editing software if this matters.
Thanks!

(1), (1), a million times (1). Reasons not to use downloaded footage are all over this forum and the guides, so I will not be repeating them here.
For sources that were made in HD, Blu-ray footage is even better.

Buying the DVD or Blu-ray is best as the quality is better than the digitally distributed copies. Another problem you would run into with Amazon or iTunes is decrypting them.

I couldn't agree more. If you need tons of DVDs for a project, it's a pain, but anything you get from Amazon and iTunes is likely going to give you an hour-long headache as you slowly realize you can't strip the rights protections off of them... and then you have to get a refund for a digital product :p...l33tmeatwad wrote:Buying the DVD or Blu-ray is best as the quality is better than the digitally distributed copies. If you do decide to go the DVD/Blu-ray route, Pixel Blended Studios has put together a great guide for both starting points (pro tip: Blu-ray is a quicker process):
