For Visual Effects and Motion Graphics, you are missing Blackmagic's Fusion.
It's high-end compositing and motion graphics software with a super powerful node-based workflow.
And it's fucking FREE!
The paid version is only $299 and offers just some more features, you probably rarely need.
Even then: $299 is nothing for this software that once cost several thousand dollars.

Movavi Video Suite (https://www.movavi.com/suite/) is a really good video editor. It is cheap too. I use it for everything video editing related. It has a lot of great features, filters and they constantly update it. It is very easy to use as well. No video editing experience or knowledge is needed.

I came across a new Motion Graphics application called Cavalry. It is currently available as a free Beta for Windows and Mac. Looks like it is really powerful for creating graphics and animations, but I have not had any success displaying video inside of it yet.

Re: Source Prep Tools
Nearly 4 years (to the day) after I posted this, it actually happened. AviSynth+ introduced support for Linux, macOS, and BSD with version 3.5.0, with 3.5.1 serving as a bugfix that made it a lot more comfortable regarding some of the various bits 3.5.0 didn't have. And FFmpeg accepted the change to the libavformat demuxer not too long after, so it's in the git repository, and will be in a point version whenever FFmpeg 4.3 gets released. Several plugins have already added non-Windows support as well.Qyot27 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 09, 2016 12:54 pmMore importantly, if/when AviSynth+ actually does rise from its current inactive period and finalize its non-Windows support, it's going to be a very trivial matter to get it working with FFmpeg on those platforms (literally just changing the library name given to dlopen, although all the ifdeffery needed for AvxSynth would also be removed).
Then in version 3.6.0, it became possible to turn off all the Intel assembly so you can build/use it on ARM. Maybe running AviSynth+ on a Raspberry Pi will be useful in the future, once we actually get NEON intrinsics into some of the stuff in the core. Right now you can only run the plain C(++) versions, so most things will be pretty slow, but hey, it does work. You might be able to play back a simple FFMS2 script for 480p H264 Hi10/444 videos without it lagging...which is still way better than it would have ever performed on the old Celeron Coppermine-128 that I edited nearly all of my videos on.
