Sakura-Con is the major regional con & contest. This year's AMV contest & exhibition happens this Friday (Apr 6) at 7 PM if you want to make the day-trip.

Anime Evolution is a bit further, up in Vancouver, Canada.

Neither one of these requires attendance to enter or win.

I didn't say it was impossible, just that I liked the automatic assumption that this person specifically will do it.
My first video didn't win. It DID inspire the WTF contest at Anime Detour.

Whether that's a good or bad thing is entirely one's own point of view however...

YES. Kumoricon is doing an AMV contest this year. Here is the contest URL:

Quick facts:
- The con happens over Labor Day weekend.
- This year it will be held in Vancouver WA, across the river from Portland, OR.
- We are accepting entries (including org links sent by email) until Friday, 27-Jul-07.
- Six categories with a prize for each category plus Judges' Choice and Best of Show.
- You do -NOT- have to be present or a convention participant to win prizes.
- Prizes for winners not present are sent by mail (including international mail.)

Yuricon's AMV contest does not require attendance, only submission of one or more AMV. If you can't get to New Jersey in September, don't fret. We'll let you know if you win, place, or show.
