Otakon 2007 AMV Contest Finalists

And without giving away too much info, this years Thursday night screening is shaping up to be the largest in Otakon history.

Did you mean to say "Friday night"?

And what's with all these little hints, huh?
Just kidding, it's much better to keep non-finalized plans under wraps than to jump the gun and get people's hopes up. I'll try not to speculate for now, but in the interest of planning out a busy weekend... the con programming booklet gets released online a little bit before con weekend, right?

Actually I was on my way out to see Fantastic Four at the time but yes Friday, sorry about that ^_^.
And as far as I know they should be releasing a schedule just before con, but don't quote me (just in case they DON'T and everyone starts yelling at me because they didn't but I said they might...etc).

It's hard to change because it works. I thought of different ways of doing it, but to be honest no matter what you do nothing else really feels right. Going from Romantic to Action or Upbeat then to Serious just doesn't flow well. Contrary to how good serious or romantic videos can be, experience has shown me time and time again that the average viewer doesn't care for them too much (at least not as much as action, upbeat, or comedy). Going from one of those last three categories to Serious or Romantic is like AMV suicide. You can almost hear the collective sign of disappointment/boredom from the audience.

The order of the existing categories is fine.

I talked to you about it a few months ago, regarding Otakon 2006's AMV contest lineup. I mean for there to be change in what the actual categories are. This will be to better group AMVs together so that the AMVs in each category are more like one another.

Basically, ALL videos would be submitted to Otakon as "Category: Uncertain" and then it would be up to the pre-screeners to decide where each video belongs.

Ah, well then in that case everything should be good because we went on what was said by the prescreeners. Quite a number of videos had their categories changed this year per prescreener reviews.

my first time I made it into Katsucon, I had a washed-out VHS-copy of my Fushigi Yuugi AMV

Hey, me too! Not Fushigi Yuugi, but it was a VHS submission of a video made with VHS fansubs - so I'm sure you can imagine how fantastic it looked

I love looking back at my old stuff and thinking "wow, I actually thought that was *good*?!?" I'm a big fan of nostalgia

I actually wanted to tell you that I enjoyed your Kiki video from last year's Otakon. Being a Kiki fan (she gets like no attention compared to the other Ghibli works), I thought it was a very good character profile

Why thank you I know what you mean - I love Kiki - it's probably still my favorite Ghibli film, or at the very least it's the only one that I really still watch on a regular basis. It's a good thing they released it on DVD, because my fansubbed copy was getting pretty worn out!
