Funny thing is taht it sounds a bit like they were intending this all along which I strongly doubt. Much of the staff never seems to want to admit that the AMV contest is popular even though it draws significantly better numbers than AX Idol and now the Masquerade (judging from the number of people in the room each year that I eye).Studio Hybrid wrote:On a more positive note, the AMV contest is once more a ticketed event.

Earlier they were insisting that AX Idol draws more people than the AMV contest and they wouldn't need to ticket it anymore. Of course they also said the contest didn't "sell out" last year too.

Although I don't agree with the voting mechanism I think the point xstylus was trying to make is the way in which you're arguing it. It's coming across as very rude and ungrateful to the coordinators and to that, I agree with him.anneke wrote:I have been mentioning that the decible reader is not a good decision FOR MONTHS (not counting after previous contests) and that I would prefer the ballot method even if it means results post-con. I've been stating so for awhile now. Other creators are also stating the same. Atleast supporting that the decible reader method is not fair. yep I guess we are not stepping forward enough. They do this under the assumption that the creators would rather have an at-con result announced to all and sundry rather than a post-con result posted to the website that gets read only by the interested few. If that is an incorrect assumption, then that is the issue you need to be addressing...
If the majority of creators are cool with a post-con announcement, then I am certain they'll have no problems bringing back the ballot system next year (which is actually easier on them because then they can then count the ballots post-con with as many staff as they feel like) and announce it afterward. The creators need to step forward and tell them that.
Where did they ever get the assumption that we would want the decible reader back with all the hatred it got in the past? Did they bother to ask the creators who entered for their feed back? No. Would it have been so hard to e-mail the creators and ask them? Then people have had problem with them emailing about if their entrys even arrived.
Then we've gotten use to being ignored when it comes to the AX contest. And it being brushed aside. I won't even spend the time to explain how fan media is now becoming popular by companys as a marketing scheme, and AMVs more accepted.

Now again, although I don't agree with the voting mechanism, after his full explanation on the matter, I am a bit more torn on the subject and see the dilemma James and Katy face. At-Con results with less than fair voting or Post-Con results with more fair voting. I think it's a valid argument that there are people who support either side (one side is more exciting while the other more fair). If I had known it came to not having any awards announced at con (at all), I would be a bit more understanding of the decision made.
In any case, I don't think xstylus is trying to say our points are invalid, but he is mainly pointing out that you're going about it the wrong way and don't know the entire picture or all the details.

Gah! Did I need to tell them how many tickets I'd need (assuming I make it in)? I don't recall ever telling them I was even gonna be there >_>Castor Troy wrote:Ticketed? crap.
That means I'll only have one spare creators ticket and probably 3+ people that I would need to give it to. I hope we have a good place to pick them up unlike last year. AMV workshop perhaps?

I don't think so, in previous years, anyone who submitted a video that did not get disqualified would receive two tickets total (for themselves and one guest)dwchang wrote: Gah! They haven't mentioned the ticketing policy for the creators because until recently they weren't even ticketing the AMV contest.

i have a few questions
1. is it to late to register for the contest(if yes, when will the next one be?)
2. is there a specific file type that needs to be submitteds?(if yes, what kind?)
3. do i need a server to submit my registration and my amv?
4.if i do not have the right file type for my amv, how can i change it?

1. Yes, teh deadline was in May, currently we're all waiting on hearing who the finalists are
2. Yes, if you go to the AX page the rules for the contest are still up, the list of file types and formats is rather extensive and I can't pull them off the top of my head. though I always submit a HuffyUV AVI and an Mpeg2 (you don't have to submit both, I do it for insurance).
3. No, AX typically runs through mail in entries and an FTP
4. See the guides but the answer to your question is dependent on wether or not you have deleted your project files allraedy. If you haven't then you just have to render it again with the appropriate file type selected in your export options. If you allready rendered a master and it's not the right filetype then I'd recomend using Virtualdub to recompress it.

speaking as a creator on the whole decible reader thing, i would rather the live audience vote be done by the decible reader, than to wait and read online who the winners are. as much as any of us hate to admit it, WHERE IS THE GLORY IN THAT?
besides, the audience votes aren't the only awards given out.
I think to sum up everything, nobody is excited about the decible reader. BUT THE STAFF ARE DOING THE BEST THEY CAN WITH WHAT HAS BEEN GIVEN THEM.
everyone needs to just stop bitching and put up with it for a year. Enjoy the show! - i mean that's why you entered, right?...
