Post by taiki » Sat Jun 23, 2007 9:12 pm

I know all of .. 12 of you guys are interested, but! I forgot to announce the upcoming 2007!

RULES!

http://www.animevegas.com/index.php?opt ... 4&Itemid=7
AMV CONTEST!

ONLINE ENTRIES ARE DUE August 15, 2007.

MAIL-IN ENTRIES POSTMARKED by August 12, 2007

Judging:

Judging will be entirely judged by the fellow attendees at the convention by use of a device that will measure audio feedback from the guests in the playback room. The videos will be categorized, then randomized, then during playback, will have a short feedback period(approx. 30 seconds) where the audience members can cheer for the videos they like. Winners will be announced shortly.

Categories:

Comedic
Action
Dramatic

If you can not determine what category your video falls under, do not hestitate to email us at amv at animevegas.com, we can help, but you must make the final decision.

Prize:

A beautiful trophy and the people's ovation and fame forever.

Time limit:

Videos must be 5 minutes or shorter.

Technical:

Resolutions:

All videos MUST be in the following two resolutions:

720x540 for videos submitted in 4:3 aspect ratio

OR

720x405 for videos submitted in 16:9 aspect ratio.

Format:

MPEG 1 or 2 are the required formats. Videos WILL be converted to MPEG2 for use on DVDs. Variable Bit Rate(VBR) is recommended but not required(if you want to submit a 5 minute AMV using the highest bit rate you can, that's entirely fine; it will be downsampled for use on a DVD Player). Videos that we are unable to convert for use in MPEG2 WILL BE DISQUALIFIED. If DVDs are sent in, they must be MPEG2 but not DVD player readable discs. In other words, the mpeg2 video, sound but no VOB container.
If you do not have an MPEG encoder with your video editting software, I would recommend using TMPGEnc, an MPEG-1 encoder, available at http://www.tmpgenc.net/ It also includes a 30 day free trial of an MPEG-2 encoder as well.
Audio must be audible (44.1khz is recommended; 48k is fine) and must be either mono or stereo as surround sound formats will be re-encoded to stereo.

Audio must be audible(44.1khz is recommended; 48k is fine) and must be either mono or stereo as surround sound formats will be reencoded to stereo.

Disqualifications:

If your video is found to be poorly encoded as to have any large artifacts, or many small artifiacts, poor color, etc. IT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

If your video is found to be of poor taste in which it contains excessive violence, sexual content or other content deemed to be in bad taste, IT WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

Again, as stated above, videos that we are unable to convert to DVD WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

If videos are over 5 minutes long, they will be disqualified.

You say this, and then you state that only MPEG-1 and -2 will be accepted... I don't think MPEG will allow a width of 540 (it's not a multiple of 8) or of 405 (it's not even an even number). What's wrong with the standard 720x480?

Also, what frame rates are acceptable? Is 23.976fps with the 3:2 pulldown flag set okay?

Dang it. :) 720x540 is 4:3 given square pixels!

I need to double check everything. This seriously happens EVERY YEAR. I never learn! But as long as it's either 720x480, or some other aspect ratio that makes sense, I don't care.

But I really should fix that.

edit: yes, 29.97 is what the final product is going to be, so, that's fine.

*BUMP*

Update:

Since I smoke crack, and somehow managed to kill a drive, I'm pushing back the due date for entries to the 26th and all mail-in entries must be RECEIVED in box by the 26th.

As well, the rules will be more clear concerning video resolutions. Even though I should be on top of these things, quite frankly, I've lost my touch and I'm frankly finding myself unable to know what the hell I'm talking about.

The rule will be I don't care what resolution it's at; just tell me if it needs aspect ratio bars of doom, if it has aspect ratio bars of doom, or if it's ready for a 4:3 NTSC DVD.
