I've never entered Masters for several reasons- first off, as Nessie mentioned when I think 'Masters' I tend to think more artsy or pushing-the-envelope- or at least visually and aurally perfect.
Second, and probably more critical for me, is the fact that the Masters is a more closed competition- and most of us make videos for them to be seen. Granted this is less of an issue as of late with so few entries such that I imagine almost all of them were shown at the awards ceremony, but I'd usually lean toward sending in a video finish around that timeframe to Pro instead of Masters simply for the fact I know I'll get the response/input from a much greater number of people on it there than in Masters.
Hmmm. I'm not making the most sense... OK, I'll put it this way: the Masters competition seems like much more of a 'serious' competition, whereas I almost exclusively make videos for the fun of it these days. Submitting them to Masters just doesn't feel right.

I thinks is because people sends amv to the context where is easier to get a prize(even if I'm not sure getting something in expo is easier than winning Masters). And also because making a 'Master-winning' mv is-usually-not the same than making a crowd-pleaser one(when I did my amv for master I knew no one was ever going to download it).MCWagner wrote: In comparison, Masters, which returned this year, recieved only 14 entries, and the only real barriers to submission are 1) premier material and 2) creator must have previously won an award somewhere. With the multitude of contests cropping up all over the country, the second requirement is not likely to be the limiting factor here.
Simply put, if unique material isn't preventing many people from submitting, how come we didn't get more Masters submissions?

For me masters has always been that one contest that I could never enter, because I never won an award at the few cons I used to enter. Then all of a sudden I start winning awards and then masters is gone. So when masters came back I knew I was going to enter no matter what.
I view the Masters competition in a slightly different light. A lot like how the professional contest doesn't mean that we all make money off of our work, but that we consider ourselves professionals. So for masters, I felt it is more of a competition where you show what you are masterful at. I knew going into it that my video wouldn't get much exposure, especially considering it's source footage, but in the end I feel it was the best new video I had at the time to send in (and yes, this does actually mean I think it's better then my Pro vid, you all can debate that if you want, suit yourselves.)
Though overall masters is the most interesting contest to submit to because I think it is the least predictable when it comes to the choice of a winner. It is neither a judges look, and audience look, or an editor look... it's MCWagner's idea of the best, and I must say that is the hardest judge to pander to.

Would it help if people PM'd you with links to their vids? Save you the trouble of hunting them down in the database. All they really need to send is the ID number for the vidid tag.MCWagner wrote:Later this weekend.
