About the anti-troll rule, I've sent my video to Acen and Akon as well as Japanexpo, so if I win something there I won't be able to win at Otakon but my entry will be shown or not even that ?

If your video wins something at ACen or A-Kon, then your Otakon entry will be bumped to "overflow" status. This means that it will not be permitted into the contest, but provided that it adheres to all of the other rules, it will be shown at an overflow screening. Overflow screenings are 2 hour blocks where we show AMVs that did not make the final contest. Depending on how many submissions we get, it may or may not even be possible to show everything, but we will make every effort to try. That is up to the Programming department and not me.

As for Japan Expo, if you are talking about the one in France, then if your entry wins something there, and NOT at ACen or A-Kon, then your submission will still be allowed into the Otakon contest since Japan Expo takes place after the Otakon AMV contest deadline. The fact that Japan Expo takes place before Otakon itself is irrelevent.

The anti-trolling rule is this way because if you follow all of the rules, and make the deadline, it is my belief that you should not be penalized for anything that happens after the deadline. How can we hold a prescreening session, vote a video in, and then pull it from the contest 3 or 4 weeks before the con because of something that is now out of your control? There are people who travel great distances for conventions and sometimes their attendance hinges on their participation in the AMV contest. I'm not going to retract a statement and ruin someone's plans like that. I'm an AMV editor too, and I have nothing but the utmost respect for anyone who takes the time to provide content :)

I must admit your explanation of the anti-trolling rule does make alot of sense to me. I guess I'll submit my video anyway, at least it'll be shown that's enough for me, cause in that case it might already have won something. I'll look how much time I can afford to make an otakon encode. Thanks for the info. :)

Sorry, for the doublepost. But I wanted to add the contest to the videoentry and it's not yet in the list, might I request adding it?

"Funny". Sorry but that's not really the word that comes to my mind.
I remember handing the contest over to Alan Chaess, not Vic Boruta.

At any rate, good luck to those who enter. I however will not be attending.

When I watched it in the screening it was pretty much PURE white. I couldn't see any details of the footages. So everyone only got to see a part of my amv which kinda made me sad.
That's a fact of life. Computer monitors display in much higher quality than a standard auditorium projector mounted a couple hundred feet away from the screen ever could

What you need to get in the habit of doing is output your video to DVD, play it on the largest TV you can find (go to a Best Buy - the guys there will usually be chill enough to let you "demo a projector" with your own DVD).

If you're entering a competition, it's the editor's responsibility to take into consideration the equipment that the video will be shown upon and tweak their video footage (and audio source) accordingly.
