Quick update: I got a response. Email reads "Sorry for the delay... Deadline moved to May 4th!" I'm not sure if that deadline is for people who already sent an FTP Request email since their site still reads that the deadline was April 25th.
Well, anyone still interested? That's another... 8 days? I might have something by then.

I was thinking about doing something for the contest but I couldn't get any of the DVDs I wanted for any of my projects. So, I figure I'll buy DVDs there and hopefully I get time to work on some stuff. I'll have something in the contest next year.
BTW, I'll probably stick out as I'll look like my profile picture and pushing a baby stroller.

AWESOMENESS!!!!
This is the 2nd AMV I've made that has been disqualified for content. Normally I would be pissed about this, but In return for my "offensive" point of view I was given a pass for front row seats at the Hentai Panel. Considering 400 people were trying to cramp into a room fit for 30-40 people, I was really happy that I got one of the best seats in the place, and got to go in before the general populace.
Congrats to all the winners, and hopefully next time I can make something that won't be too offensive to watch.
I'll be uploading the AMV soon since it hasn't gotten any exposure yet. I'll post the link here soon as I get it up (LOL... hentai panel is still fresh in my mind).

Dang, better luck next year with your AMVs (was your the DearS one?). Yeah that line was ridiculus. They really needed bigger rooms for that and the Panel of Doom.superboi wrote:AWESOMENESS!!!!

Aside from that , I can't believe I actually won. I really wasn't expecting it at all. Actually since they didn't play anything from me till the end I was scared that maybe my AMVs got lost in the mail. Super Shock! Congrats to everyone else that won or got shown!

but yeah they do need a bigger room for the hentai panel. That room got hot fast, and as cramped as we were I was surprised it didn't turn into an orgy with people singing "its gettin hot in here..."

I thought the contest was just okay. It ran smooth. The winners (except mine) were... well... indeed the best of the bunch. I have to believe that there weren't a lot of entries, because half of the "top 19" finalist videos had subtitles and/or were the same boring theme/concepts we've all seen time and time again.
If editors would just put half as much time/effort into their AMVs as people put into their costumes, we'd have a decent contest. On a side note, this year was one of the better Costume Contests I've seen. =D
Megacon's 2008 AMV contest was lackluster too... Do you think I'll really have to travel out of state to go to a contest where all the videos on screen aka "finalists" actually deserve to be up there?

Actually, yes, I do read the boards from time to time. As my previous e-mails stated, I was sorry (profusely so) for the delay in FTP information and that problem rests SOLELY on my shoulders. I got bogged down with "real life" issues and such that we don't need to bother with here. I did my best to accomodate everyone. This was my FIRST time running a contest, so naturally there would be issues. I was a great learning experience in that and I've got a lot of better plans/changes for next year.
I wish I had read earlier that people did not like the twist on awards. I really wanted to do something different to try and shake things up for you guys and have more fun with this stuff. I've noticed some of the same things you've mentioned here and I wanted to try something new. If you feel strongly about anything, please use the feedback form at www.jacon.org. It will be reviewed and considered. I did everything in my power/experience and semi-functional thought process to accomodate what I could and I hope you folks were at least somewhat satisfied with the results as I'd love to have next year be better. I can promise that I won't have NEARLY the number of distractions next year. I also want to kick things off a lot earlier.
I also did do a last minute addition of a critique panel, as you may have noticed on the schedule grids, to give contestants the chance to get "answers". It was a little less crowded than I expected, but I really hope it was helpful to all of you.
Again, I'm sorry for dropping the ball in the beginning, but I hope the recovery at least got a first down or two.
Oh, and as far as video quality, number of entries, type or whatever. Keep in mind a LOT of this years entries were first timers. I respect and appreciate that, so I did my best to show everyone and keep the flow/pacing good. Everyone deserves a chance and start somewhere. As anyone in the critique panel saw, my first video was like HORRID, so we all gotta get a start somewhere.
