Re: Nekocon 2009 Submission deadline October 1 2009
As far as the non-competing category. Only those videos marked as non-competing are placed in that category. Reasons for this category are videos may have won at several other competitions but they want to show off there work. Staff of Nekocon may have made an AMV they want to show and of course they are not able to compete. Up and coming editors may want to show off there work to get feedback from the more experienced editors to see what they could do better and of course there are misc reasons someone may want to submit to this category.
As far as our Tasteful no nudity rule. Nekocon is a Family oriented Con. Attendees age range from 1-100 etc. So we ask that they are a PG-13 rating and that is determined by a preview panel. I would not want to discourage you from submitting, but if you know their are alot of nudity, violence, curse words, then all we ask is that you don't get discouraged if your video is disqualified. Tips I can give you. Try using a censor bar or blurring that protion of video, if there are profanities, bleep them out or mute them. You can even be creative in some senses by audio your own audio over the word. Like saying something like donkey instead of A$$. Or put a picture of a monkey over they groaning area.
A PG-13 rating is a sterner warning by the Rating Board to parents to determine whether their children under age 13 should view the motion picture, as some material might not be suited for them. A PG-13 motion picture may go beyond the PG rating in theme, violence, nudity, sensuality, language, adult activities or other elements, but does not reach the restricted R category. The theme of the motion picture by itself will not result in a rating greater than PG-13, although depictions of activities related to a mature theme may result in a restricted rating for the motion picture. Any drug use will initially require at least a PG-13 rating. More than brief nudity will require at least a PG-13 rating, but such nudity in a PG-13 rated motion picture generally will not be sexually oriented. There may be depictions of violence in a PG-13 movie, but generally not both realistic and extreme or persistent violence. A motion picture’s single use of one of the harsher sexually-derived words, though only as an expletive, initially requires at least a PG-13 rating. More than one such expletive requires an R rating, as must even one of those words used in a sexual context. The Rating Board nevertheless may rate such a motion picture PG-13 if, based on a special vote by a two-thirds majority, the Raters feel that most American parents would believe that a PG-13 rating is appropriate because of the context or manner in which the words are used or because the use of those words in the motion picture is inconspicuous.
To break it down here is what we would consider PG-13...
PG-13 for Nudity: Fully unclothed back shots & side shots that give a hint of size and shape of a breast (ie less than 25 % of the actual breast visible)
PG-13 for Jokes: If it would fly on the Simpson's show
PG-13 for suggestive scenes: Think along the lines of a daytime soap.
As for giant blood splatters, are we talking comic levels or realistic?

Same, I just got my info but no server to upload to. I might be missing it due to the cold/flu induced haze though. D:

Re: Nekocon 2009 Submission deadline October 1 2009
The AMV department meeting was last night. Here's what I can tell you.
October 1 is a "soft" deadline, meaning that if there are problems with existing entries or those who have requested need an extra day or two to upload, the ABSOLUTE cutoff date would be October 6. In other words, no NEW requests will be taken after October 1.
Apparently, entries have been streaming in quite consistently as of late (procrastinators UNITE! ), but that was expected. T-Mac just sent out the last of the latest batch of FTP emails last night so sound off if there are any questions.
As for the mailed submissions, our con chair has to deliver the physical entries by Saturday, whereupon I will receive a list of everyone whose entries have been received so far. I will post that list here once I get it. If you don't see your name on it, don't wait another minute to let us know.
We previewed the category bumpers and contest intro from Studio Blaquefeather. The word "epic" comes to mind. Y'all are gonna love this year's batch of new animations.
Finally, I saw the trophy for the second place winners of each category and it is n-i-i-i-i-c-e! It's a heavy glass panel with frosted lettering, logo, and design on a wood base with a gold-tone metal plate denoting category. It's a heavy piece of hardware, and the first place version is actually larger than the one I saw. Seriously, this is something worthy of formal display when you get it home. There will be additives to the trophy prizes but I won't spoil the whole thing. Suffice it to say aspiring AMV editors and potential entrants for next year will look at these things and think, "Damn, I'd like to have one of those..."
We're working to make sure everything is taken care of and that no one is left out for reasons other than disqualification (trolling, content violation, etc). Bear with us as this year marks a first in many ways for this contest...
