Hm. Did anyone hear about how the entries were selected this year? Usually, I hear something about a weekend where a bunch of people get together to choose which videos got in, but, and maybe I'm just forgetting it, I heard nothing about that here. Is it possible that the list of finalists isn't complete yet?

The way I see it, software an editor does not make. However, software can make an editors life much easier. I always tell fledgling editors the same thing: make your first videos in a linear editor like WMM or iMovie. Make a trailer, or something with a simple concept. Once you've done that one or three times, buy a good NLE and never look back.

This year's competition must be really good.

I certainly hope that's what it means. I still hope I'll be getting in - the longer I have to wait to find out if I'm in the finals, the less and less confident I am in my video. I don't like that.
