"Troll" videos are kind of a double edged sword. If you're the one who MADE the video, and it's an awesome video, you want to win as much as you can. If you're the person up AGAINST that video, your heart just sinks as soon as you see it on the list.
Course it seems to be pure luck of the draw a lot anyway...like you submit a video in a category that any other year would probably have won the same year every single super editor decides to enter that category too.

As to the same editors always winning...well that's just sort of how the world at large works, and these things ARE contests after all. It wouldn't be any more fair to ban somebody for being good. Besides even when you don't get in it's a bummer but I'd rather have the most entertaining contest possible to watch. Otakon (and a lot of other cons) screen entries blind, so people aren't swayed by name alone.

No extensions. For the work that's involved (hint: a lot more than just put the videos in a list and hit play and see what happens) the deadline is already STUPIDLY close to the pre-screening date which again is STUPIDLY close to the con. We also have to get the finalists approved by the Otakon's lawyer so that adds even more time. We can't run off 5,000 double-sided, perforated and cut ballots the day before the con. Oh and the seating badges for all the submitters? Yeah those are done by hand, and we do 3 for everyone regardless of whether we know you'll be there or not, because there's always people who put "not attending" on the submission form and then magically find their way to the con. Better off doing more work than looking like an ass :)

I was going to say: I'm considering myself lucky that the deadline this year isn't in May like it has been most years recently.

I noticed the deadline...which is the day after AnimeNext/A-Kon...and considering pre-screening would have to happen soon after that...this implies that pre-screening is again happening on fourth of July weekend, I presume...

I agree. Maybe I'm just old, but it seems to me that it hasn't been that many years since the deadline was in May and there was NO ftp option (and that was totally reasonable, IMHO, considering the work that goes into the screening). The June deadline is always a huge sigh of relief when I see it...until it's June 12th and I haven't finished editing...

Vic, any news on if the AMV Overflow is going to be back to it's usual 3 days this year? I hope so! That's one of my fav things to do while my husband is off spending cash without my supervision in the vendor room....so needless to say, he was pretty mad last year, too... :awesome:

It has been planned, but I haven't seen anything even close to a beta schedule, so I have no clue if the new program director actually does give a damn about fan programming or if it's business-as-usual for Otakorp. I have requested two 3-hour blocks for the AMV contest (contest is still 2 hours, we seriously need an hour to seat everyone) as well as 6 additional hours for overflow, distributed however they fit into the schedule. I've also suggested a third contest screening on Sunday (non-voting), time permitting.

The AMV Contest awards will take place during Iron Editor, which usually runs parallel to the masquerade.
