Re: Anime Los Angeles 2012 AMV Contest
I will be posting the contest finalists list this Monday Morning. January 2nd 2012.
This year we tried a later final submission date, more in line with our actual policies. I do not like how it has turned out. I don't really have enough time to reply to and deal with submission issues, and that does a disservice to the contest participants. This year we received enough entries by December 10th to hold a decent contest (30 videos). We have received more entries since then, but what that tells me is that we are now big enough to start turning away people for being late.
Over 50 videos have been submitted to the contest as of December 30th. I expect more will rush in just under the line. The contest was planned to have 21 videos. We are expanding that limit to 25, but many people will simply be turned away because of the number of quality entries we already have, and the requirement we have this year that we stick to a strict showing time. I understand this is frustrating for some creators, and I would be glad to discuss the witherfores and the whynots at the convention.
Next year we will also require that all videos be submitted in very specific formats, and through an online FTP upload form. Amazingly this year, 90% of contestants have been nearly of one mind in their submission format (mp4) and delivery method (megaupload). I want to thank everyone who did this, and made things much easier for me.

Re: Anime Los Angeles 2012 AMV Contest
New Updates!
This year we received many videos that are more "upbeat/dance" than really comedy. So we are going to try out a "Dance" category. In order to accommodate we may be increasing the accepted videos to 30 (5 categories, 6 each) however we don't want to end up with categories so large that the audience gets bored.
THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE COMEDY CATEGORY. NO ONE IS BEING TURNED AWAY BECAUSE OF THIS NEW CATEGORY
I want to also assure everyone that all of your videos are being watched and judged. It is not easy to look at something that obviously had alot of heart poured into it and say "no, this will not be in the contest because..." and then have to justify to myself why. I find this the more difficult task, as everyone has their own opinion on what constitutes art, and how art should be graded. To do this I use 4 categories, 5 points each.
Thematics: How well did the audio and the video fit together to tell a coherent story.
Quality: Was the quality of the video and audio sources high enough that the work clearly communicated to the audience.
Editing: Did the creator put the right amount of effort into editing the video and audio together.
Timing: Were critical parts of the audio timed to the video properly. Did the flow of action fit the beat of the music.
I hope this post informs.

Um most of the categories have 6 videos, except Drama and Pro. Is that purposely or did you forget 2 entries in the Drama and Pro? o_o
