I was upset that my video wasn't shown in the Contest since I worked really hard on it.

BUT.....

I submitted it to PortConMaine and it won first place! A video with no effects and transitions beat everyone in an open contest.

I had originally planned to show the top 10 Challenge videos and the top 15 Open videos, but based on where the scores fell and the 90 minute run time for the show, I made the decision to show only the top 6 Challenge videos. Your video came in 7th and I regret not showing it since it is more the kind of video we had in mind when the challenge was chosen. However, you did use some source footage with internal effects that were difficult to determine, so perhaps some of the judges penalized you for that since the wording of the challenge is no visible effects. Though that didn't seem to affect the the results for The Basketball Which Kuroko Jams.

Congratulations on your PortConMaine win! :D

The challenge was to use no visual effects or transitions. I did that. I cut the footage directly from the source, which was the anime itself, and gave the illusion of effects by using what was in the source. The zooms and various things.

So if the reason I was graded poorly is because of my editing, then I'm actually happy that it was that good and hard to tell. I double checked everything and turned off the automatic crossfades in my program. There was one scene that looked cross faded, but I did go through it all frame by frame to make sure it wasn't and followed the rules. I'm disappointed though because I did put a lot of effort in and thought my video was one of the better ones.

I use to edit with WMM that had no effects or fades at the time, so it brought me back to those days where I had to use the footage to give the illusion of effect that weren't there.

I agree. I also thought your video was one of the better ones and it did place in the top 10 out of 25 submitted (7th). I know you put a lot of hard work in and I know that you followed the rules. If you hadn't, I would have ruled it ineligible to compete. There were 3 other challenge submissions that didn't meet the requirements (though one was admittedly entered by mistake).

Did you manage to see the whole selection on Sunday to see the other videos that were entered in the Challenge? We got a lot of really good videos this year.

I hope next year's challenge is just as competitive.

I'm glad to hear that I was in the top 10. I'll keep trying :D
