That seems...excessive. That's a third of the contest. Is that number a mistake?

Next year I'm hoping to have the contest as an 18+ event so we don't have to be as cautious to what we allow in the contest.

Thank you all for entering. We will be announcing finalist hopefully by the 30th.

I really have to air on the side of caution. Apparently last year the coordinator of the contest let some stuff through that was questionable. So if there is any questionable blood content or sexual innuendo content I have to pass it a long to the higher ups. At this time that's where the number stands. I'm sure the number will go down by Monday. However I have to receive word back from the convention.

Believe me I don't like this, because there were some amazing videos and each time I asked one of my staffers they were saying it was iffy and to pass it up.

sigh...

Again not my choice on this matter, it's again the previous contest coordinator and the coordinators before him that messed things up. I'm going to try and get things on the right track and see what I can do. I want the best possible contest, but don't want to have the staff or angry parents. Society today is becoming to overprotective. Yet we still show the same type of material on T.V. and can't at an AMV Contest, despite both being at prime time.

Don't most AMV Contests show a warning/disclaimer at the beginning, explaining that there will be violence/sexual themes/questionable content/etc? I feel like that should devoid you guys of any blame for content.

Yes they do. I plan on having one.

However the following content is what I got in the videos for the contest.

17 of the 30 are going to be DQ...
13 of the 30 are questionable and have to be passed up.

I'm still sorting all the information out but this is what information I can give you right now, without discussing any videos in particular without details.

We had severed heads in videos.
We had bodies that were exploding or being eaten.
Fountain of blood spraying out of the body. We are not talking about a character just getting a cut.
Questionable anime footage that look like bondage.
Songs that are not appropriate. Talking about a sexual action to oneself.
We had a nude female in the video even though it was a far away shot, and in another it was close up even though it was only up there for a second.

I just went through my dq'ed videos and re-watched them all.‏
Just to see if I could pass any of them‏
We had some Kill La Kill.‏
Boobs bouncing while transforming.‏
Those may get DQ‏
I have to pass that up and sometimes showing her lady bottom when transforming‏
8 of them had excessive amounts of blood.‏
Bodies exploding, being eaten, heads and limbs being torn or cut off.
There's a video with a head being held and a scene that involves surgery and the body is moving...again questionable for PG-13.

Again a lot of stuff I have to take into consideration.

I'll pass all 30 along to see if they over turn any of them and if I'm being to cautious. I however do not want to put anybody in the audience in the situation they were in the past.

Please work with me on this as I'm trying to do the right thing for both the editors and the convention with the little time I have left.

Guess I'm out for eaten bodies and brief nudity

But boobs bouncing during transformation? wow..

I guess it depends on the convention.
I coordinated for five of them and each was vastly different from the others.
One is "family-friendly" so their standards are strict but fair.
The second was quietly tightening the noose to the point I was only informed during the judging process.
Another is "kid-friendly" so theirs were rigid and unyielding.
The third one just didn't care and allowed me to use my and my panel's own discretion.
The last one just says "obvious is out; ambiguous is up to you" and there was no trouble.
There are conventions out there that allow up to the PG-13 line and require warnings and disclaimers up to and during the actual event while others try to keep a "Disney" cleanliness limit in place.
Nekocon is "family-friendly" but not ridiculously so.
With so many different standards of content being used, I know how frustrating it is.
I guess the only trick is to investigate each competition and find out where the lines are "clearly" drawn, consult with the coordinator about your content, and deciding whether or not to enter that particular competition..?

Preach it.

The social aspect of an IRL amv contest just isn't about trolling and beat up each other in front of a screen with an audience. There is some fine line between what is acceptable or not to broadcast during a con...but with rules and concerns for "viewing safety", the line is even finer. It's all up to to how the convention was shaped.

Now, how would any of you would deal with an angry mom after an amv contest about violence in the contest? I doubt that beside trolling, you would have anything worthy to think of.

Gene, you still have 60 amvs you can make use of . It's more than enough :shark:. Now just learn from that little mistake and the community and go on.

Fortunately, I've never had that happen.
At least it was never stated if it did.
But, again, anything beyond a "Disney PG" standard should be accompanied by disclaimers and warnings so these "concerned parents" have nothing to complain about.
I look at it this way.
If someone walks in and doesn't understand what they see, 19 times out of 20 they'll shrug it off and move on.
If they DO understand what they see, the genie was already out of the bottle.
But, still, those warnings were still there the entire time so it's not the con's fault the affected parties were ignorant of them.
