Good questions...trigunvash wrote:Two questions:
1. You said no staff or guest of Otakon may compete. What if you are a fan Panel speaker on a subject that has absolutly nothing to do with AMV's?
2. Do you accept SVCD formatted mpg' files? Its better than VCD but not exactly DVD, but its 480x480 which is better than normal vcd.
1)I asked this question to some of the big-wigs at Otakon, who told me, "Panelists are not guests". If that is true, then I see no reason why a panelist can not make a submission.
2)The most I know on the subject is that If your sending VCD, you should not make it DVD playable, as it doesn't mesh well and all tales I know personally about sending an AMV in DVD format end terribly. I would ask Patrick Bohnet (Quu) about it
On another note...The address you see at the top here, has been incorrect since I made the original post...I have since corrected it. If anyone HAS sent me a form and has to pay for additional postage, email me.

Re: Otakon contest rules
I can think of a couple of videos that had some pretty spoiler-rific footage in them (Trigun... Escaflowne...), and they still got into the contest finals, and even won a prize. Getting an AMV into the finals is much more a case of how good your AMV is and how well it communicates to people in the audience, rather than what it's about.BogoSort wrote:It never has in the past, I don't see why it should matter now. There does happen to be this wonderful warning at the beginning of the tape that mentions the possibility of major spoilers.Scintilla wrote:I know there's no explicit rule against them [Plot Spoilers --Cybermat], but will they hurt our chances of getting to the finals?
I'm not saying people should go hog-wild with footage that's likely to be a spoiler for people, but sometimes the right footage for a specific AMV needs to include scenes from the plot that turn out that way.
