banner contest question...

i made two really good banners in the last couple of days, but they're my first ones, and i don't know how to get them down to less than 20k. the lowest i can get it to is 60k, and that just won't do. is there a special program or a sertain type of file to save them as. i'm using photoshop, and illustrator and image ready. can i do it with one of them?

Try saving to .JPG or .GIF.

They have a small filesize-

however I recommend that you don't compress them a lot; as most viewers will rate them on their quality... well it's up to you.

thanks for the input, but it wasn't all that helpful. jpeg is what i've been saving it as and the lowest i can get it is to 60k. saving as gif is just worse. if you find out anything new, post it. i'll be checking regularly to see if anything new comes up.

well if you use photo shop when you save it as a jpeg you can set the quality of it and it gives you a file size so you can get it to 20k or lower without loosing too much qulity.

yeah i was checkin that out. i tried it out and put it on the lowest options and it still was 60k. i'll mess around with it some more. do you know the specific settings for it?

o.o damn, must be a really complex banner. umm play with the format options also. Other then that i don't know what you can do.

yeah, well thanks. i've seen some really complex stuff on the winners section for the banners. and they're all under 20k. i wish i knew how they did it.

Have you tried "Save For Web" instead of just "Save"? I'm fairly sure you can get smaller file sizes that way. That's what I always do.
