This contest makes no sense. It feels like a product of bitterness, not some logically reasoned competition.

There is nothing related to recognition that prevents "newbies" from entering any other contest, save AWA Masters (but they're just a bunch of weirdos anyway :P )

Ah yes, one last thing. A hypothetical case:

Let's say some omgwtf pro decides to make a new .org account. Given reasonable precautions (anonymized IP address, for instance) this person would have a fresh history.

Said person makes a video -- a really well-constructed video -- and enters it into your contest.

Will you accept it as an incredible first video, or will you reject it as the entry of a masquerading newbie?

I don't know what you'll choose, but you lose either way. Acceptance of the video implies that you failed to judiciously apply your criteria (as bad as they are); rejection of the video means that said "newbie" could rant about how you failed to judiciously apply your criteria. In both cases, you lose whatever credibility you have left.

[quote="TobinHood
New AMV creators have just as much of a chance in anything else as some of the older amv creators. In fact I've seen some newer people that have pulled off some very nice stuff that could compete in any major amv contest.

[/quote]

I agree that is why we have made this contest. Its specifically for them.

Look, I don't want to make anyone mad or upset them in anyway. I'm not trying to be mean or single anyone out. The idea here is to see what new AMV creators can really do. I think they have a lot to teach and if we are willing to listen, we can learn from them.

If you don't like the contest, then DON'T ENTER. However, if you would like to enter, then please be all means do.

Oh and just one last thing

This IS not a product of bitterness. This idea was developed to give new vid creators a chance to show what they are made of.

Why don't you see that??? Tell me why it is that you feel the need to put down the contest. Its to give new people a shot. I see so many new amv creators who are put down, simply for the fact that they are new. I think its terrible. Then I also see new amv creators emerge who think they are all that and a bag of chips and put down people with a lot of experience and know how.

This contest was developed so that new amv creators would be able to fight it out against their peers and really show what they can do.

That is the point!

And this is my point:

Your contest is pointless, and is doomed to fail.

I have addressed the latter claim already. As you have not rebuked it, I'll assume that the argument still stands.

Now, for the former.

It serves no purpose that cannot be fufilled by any other contest, online or otherwise. How do general-entry contests discriminate against newbies? Members of the AMV community do, but I have never seen such a case in which a contest that is open to any entrants has rejected an entry on the basis of "oh, this person isn't recognized as an AMV pro".

As you have not managed to convince me that your primary motivation is not bitterness, please outline, with specific examples, exactly how the majority of general-entry contests discriminate against those who are not recognized by the "AMV community".

How does this contest give newbies more recognition than any other contest? Your reasons so far have been nothing but empty hand-waving. I would think that a newbie would have much more to gain, and nothing more to lose, by entering a more prestigious, established contest such as Otakon's or AWA Pro / AWA Expo.

A contest needs credibility to be a success.

Your opinions are all welcomed however the point still stands, if you think its 'doomed to failure' good for you, if you think this contest sucks, even better for you, if however you think this contest is a chance for newbies to gain experince, and also make a name for themselves in this, then sign up, send down a vid and see what we say, flame us all you want as it wont change the fact that you forget its hard to get started...

Its not as simple as to 'stop making cliched vids' as they need somebody to tell them that. They need experince and this is a chance at that.

If you think this sucks then great, i really care ;)
