Indeed, including the contest discs wandering off afterwards. I wonder how that happened...

Seriously, though, good luck with the contest this year. If I wasn't overseas, I'd send this year's offering in for exposition, but it already got some on this side of the ocean, so it's Otakon-ho.

Jeez. I just pulled a Nabbe. Okay, I just marked that Friends Only as it should have been. I'm sorry about that. As for the contest discs, they were left in the a/v pit, I just failed to return them, and after the convention it didn't seem like there was a point, right?

I do expect that this years quality will be as high as any contest around.

And, please submit your video for exhibition. Not many of the people who attend AFO will have been to Otakon, or will be at AWA, so it will be their best opportunity to see the good stuff.

Ummm...I'm not going to AWA either, and I somehow don't feel the least bit deprived. As far as sending my video to AFO, I did so in the past because I had friends attending who could fill me in on crowd reaction (aka the big reason I send vids to cons). Since none of them are going this year, I don't have much incentive to submit, especially as doing so sets me back about $10.50 per submission (thank you international post...)

In the meantime, I think there's been enough posting for the drama impaired on this thread. And anybody who is curious about the above post with dead link should feel free to PM me.

I'd just like to announce that I've confirmed my three judges for the AFO AMV contest.

Returning for his third year, Sushiboy Jared. Recognized for his excellent entries into the AWA masters competitions and an expert at audio composition.

Also returning will be Joey Snackpants. Mr Snackpants is a notorious AMV personality and creator and is well known for his elite attitude toward video quality.

New this year will be Cobheran, recent winner in the JACON AMV contest for best Action entry. He will bring his youthful exuberance to balance out the years of experience of the other two judges.

If you're familiar with the Orlando anime club scene, you'll realize that all three judges are from different clubs, and are not affiliated with the group which produces AFO. I'm proud to be helping reduce the drama in my community.

As a creator that isn't part of the whole Orlando anime club scene, I'm curious as to what drama you are refering to. There were those idiots that interupted the AMV contest for some stupid costume contest anouncement, but I blame the AFO heads for that one, not the AMV people. Clue me in, I must have missed something.

The drama I'm refering to isn't some specific act. In the Orlando anime club scene, many people have started clubs because they couldn't get along with people in other clubs, or felt slighted, or what have you. That is what I refer to as "drama".

Then there are some people seem to go out of their way to cause trouble for their own amusement. I don't appreciate that. (No, I'm again not refering to anybody in particular)

The *other* Orlando based anime convention typically has a panel on anime clubs, I don't think AFO is running one, we're typically refered to as a "tasked based organization", because Anime Gaijin America (the organization behind the convention), doesn't do anything but events. Strangely we're just a bunch of people who get off on throwing big parties for other people.

But they run that panel at a sucky time (IIRC 10am Sat), because who wants to listen to a bunch of BS history? :-)

Did you read down this far? Hah, then I'll tell you a secret. There were *two* screwups on the announcement last year.
1) The interruption was planned. I knew it was going to happen. I don't know why Jason didn't know. I can certainly see why it would have bothered him.
2) They were only supposed to announce the cosplay winners, which would have taken a couple of minutes at most. But the MC was just told to announce the winners, and his sheet had every winner at the convention so far on it. Whupps.

All I can say is that during a convention, mistakes *will* be made. We do our best, and I promise we will never make either of those mistakes again.

AFO Update - Late entrants

Post by efathefinger » Sun Jun 13, 2004 9:03 am

Just to let you know, as all judged AMV contest entrants must pre-register, I have negotiated an extension of the pre-reg discount to the July 9th mailed entry deadline for AMV contestants.

Currently the pre-registration discount ($10) will expire on June 20th. After that date, please pay the full price, and I will provide your name to the registration desk and you will receive your rebate at the door.

This will only be available to valid contestants whose entries comply with the AMV contest rules and are received by the July 9th deadline.

Hi. I have a BA in History. And you know, I have that degree because I just can't stand history. What a useless bunch of BS. /sarcasm

And I've been to Japanese History/Anime History panels at 9AM before at cons and they've been some of the most fun events at the con (esp. if Rob Fenelon and co. are leading it). Oh, and Otakon has always had its AMV Workshop/Panel first thing Saturday morning and yet 100+ people always manage to come for that. Just because you went out partying late Friday and don't want to get up for an early panel doesn't mean that others aren't looking for something to fill their interests then.

And as far as inter-club drama and accusations go, I don't really think you're one to talk consider that your LJ is called "Postings for the Drama Impaired" and your best friend's (also an AFO judge) is "TNT has nothing on this DRAMA!".

I don't know why last year's admin didn't know about the interruption, maybe somebody forgot to tell him (maybe even the same person who stole the contest discs...)...

It's sad that I don't even have anything at stake regarding your event for this, I just love calling people on bullshit.
