that was a really strong showing in all categories, especially drama. bravo to all the creators who made the contest. i have a lot of great music from the contest and the overflows stuck in my head now. congrats to brad for winning the first otakon iron editor contest. you should write that in the back of the medal with a sharpie in case you forget
for reference, the finalists can be found here: http://www.amv-contest-lists.org/data/otakon2005.htm
since this seems to be the offical post-otakon thread, i'll say here that it was really nice meeting a bunch of editors, whether it was a brief introduction or if we had a conversation. digitalex, thanks a lot for saving me a ton of time by finding what overflow i was in. i saw your vid in the screening too and the editing was really well done. floyd, it was really cool talking to ya and getting pummeled in texas hold 'em. and of course congrats on winning what IMO was the strongest category in the contest.

Yeah, that was Shinji, from episode 1 (2?) where he runs into PenPen in the bathroom, freaks out and runs back into the living room buck naked. Originally there was a beer in front of his *ahem* and then Misato picked it up and a can of toothpicks was there still covering him up.ebichuman wrote:Stupid question: who was that guy behind the shower curtain at the end of the Wizard of Ozaka AMV? It looked like Shinji.

I'll be mailing HuffyUV exports of the videos to the editors and it'll be up to them to encode them in their desired formats and upload them to the Org. Alan has mpeg-2 files for each which were shown at the end of the contest, but they were done in Pinnacle Trex with default values vs using all the nice settings that TMPEG has.AtomX wrote:I need to grab a copy from Omar. Where can we get those vids from this year's Otakon Iron Chef?

No prob. Glad I could help out. There were so many good videos in overflow that I think could have easily made finalists in other conventions. The quality of submissions was that good.downwithpants wrote: since this seems to be the offical post-otakon thread, i'll say here that it was really nice meeting a bunch of editors, whether it was a brief introduction or if we had a conversation. digitalex, thanks a lot for saving me a ton of time by finding what overflow i was in. i saw your vid in the screening too and the editing was really well done. floyd, it was really cool talking to ya and getting pummeled in texas hold 'em. and of course congrats on winning what IMO was the strongest category in the contest.
As for Nightmare, I totally agree. It was an amazing video and I had the hardest time deciding between that and I Walk Alone. I was hanging out with huge Eva fans at one of the screenings and we all sat there in awe.

I was also really digging the first video in the contest, "Something Better." I'd never thought of FLCL as a love story -- it's too wacky and all-over-the-place -- but when I saw that video I thought "Hey, I should rewatch that and concentrate on following the romance!" I think it's a mark of a good AMV creator to be able to take a show of type X and completely convert it to type Y using existing footage.I'm presuming "Mamimi" is included in that group, so thanks! (Another really good FLCL: "Fire in the Disco.")
