As far as AMV Hell goes, I never did see what was all that funny about it. In fact I thought it was offensive and in bad taste to use Grave of The Fireflies the way it did. A lot of my friends wouldn't vote for it because of the Grave of The Fireflies scene as well, though they thought it was hilarious up till then.
That said, last year I voted for Youta's Love Nightmare which really didn't get any recognition.
This year I thought that a lot of the videos were sub par compared to last year. I really didn't have all that hard a time choosing winners in each category. there were maybe three in each category that I thought deserved to be finalists. And after watching the Overflow Vids I was really suprised that videos like Trogdor or Star Wars Gangsta Rap (which isn't all that funny when taken out of context) got into the finals.
The ones that were good were great, but there was at least one in each category that I thought wasn't up to par compared to some of the Overflow Videos.

Hiya, everyone! I'm Michael Z, and I'm the creator of REAL NINJAS.
I wanted to say a few things. FIRST, I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone out there who enjoyed REAL NINJAS! It was a total blast to see such a positive reaction to my production at both AnimeNEXT and Otakon! There were some AWESOME vids at both of those cons, too! It was a total pleasure to see such great productions!
SECOND, I will have REAL NINJAS up for download within the next week or two. I am...how do you say... LAME... and therefore possess the ancient method of internet access known as dial-up! My friend has broadband, so I just need to mooch off of his pc! After I get this vid up on the org, I will then get my other amvs up as well!
It was great to meet some new fellow amv folk at Otakon and NEXT! I hope to meet more of you in the future!

I think it is funnier when watching with a group. It seemed the point was to get a big WTF? reaction to everything. The GotF part was just wrong in so many ways.Stratagemini wrote:As far as AMV Hell goes, I never did see what was all that funny about it. Personally, tho, I thought Black Sun's German 101 was funnier.
I think Youta's Love Nightmare was in the Romance category. I agree, it is a pretty good video. That said, last year I voted for Youta's Love Nightmare which really didn't get any recognition.
I'm starting to get that impression in downloading this year's videos. Not many great ones so far. This year I thought that a lot of the videos were sub par compared to last year. German 101 was pretty good as well, and I enjoyed it a lot too.TheLongshot wrote:Personally, tho, I thought Black Sun's German 101 was funnier.
Youta's Love Nightmare was in comedy- Vlad's VGAi video "Love in Digital" was in Romance. It was something of a surprising turn for us to both enter VGAi videos in the Otakon contest, given it's a series that (unfortunately) doesn't get used a lot. Though I suppose we're both showing our age by using it.I think Youta's Love Nightmare was in the Romance category. I agree, it is a pretty good video.

Just a quick note that Doki Doki's "The Significance of Scenery," probably the best "traditional" comedy AMV at the con, is now up.
