Tales of Anime 2007 Anime Music Video Contest

Post by tpod » Sat Nov 11, 2006 1:01 pm

TALES OF ANIME
April 6-8, 2007
Marriott San Mateo-San Francisco Airport
San Mateo, California
http://www.talesofanime.com
AMV Contest Details: http://www.talesofanime.com/content/view/24/39/

-------------------------------------------------------------------

PRIMARY CATEGORIES

There are two primary categories of the AMV contest. You may enter up to five AMVs total, in either category. They are:

ANIME: Animation cuts set to Music.
GAMING: Game play or movie cuts set to Music.

Although it is not necessary to enter the AMVs under the Convention’s theme-of-the-year, it is highly encouraged. The AMV with the Convention theme will earn additional points as well as assurance the video will not be cut from the line-up if the time slot for the event warrants submissions to be dropped.

WINNERS

All winners will receive prize packets (one packet per group) and a certificate. The winners’ name will also be listed on ToA website. The winners will be announced at Closing Ceremony.

JUDGING

Tales of Anime Attendees will view the videos at the convention and will vote per ballot on awards for Best Themed-Video, Best Comedy, Best Drama, Best Action, and Audience Favorite for both categories.

Our Guests of Honor will also participate in the viewing and present award in Special Judges’ Favorite.

THEME

The theme this year is Angels and Demons.
Please note that although we are a Boy’s Love-friendly convention, the music videos will be viewed by audience of all ages. All videos with strong M/M, F/F or F/M content may be declined if the staff deemed it inappropriate for general viewers.
Excessive gore or violence is discouraged and major violence in videos will only be accepted if it truly fits in with the theme and the categories
Please email the AMV Coordinator ( amv@talesofanime.comThis email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it ) with any questions.

GENRE CATEGORIES

The creator(s) of the video must select a category for their video and indicate this ON the submitted disk.
The available categories are:
- comedy for game/anime
- drama for game/anime
- romance for game/anime
- action for game/anime

SUBMISSION RULES
Please attempt to limit the length of each video to 7 minutes. Included in this time would be any notes or titles you wish to include with your video. If you feel that your video needs to exceed this limit, please include a short note explaining why. We will accept the tape and the ToA Staff will determine if the situation is valid. Not included in this time should be a one to two second leader and trailer of nothing but a blank screen (this makes creating the con copy a simpler process).

Footage used in the video should be from anime series/movies/OAVs/Gaming and keep with the convention theme. In order to qualify for awards, the videos should be matched with music. Videos containing footage from live action cinema will likely be disqualified from winning awards but may still be shown as an "exhibition only" video.

All entries become the property of ToA and will not be returned to the creator(s). So, please, give us great copies, not masters.

All submitted videos are assumed to be cleared by the creator(s) for display purposes.
No more than five (5) entries per creator will be accepted. No exceptions. We cannot guarantee that all entries will be shown, due to time constraints, but every effort will be made to show as many selected entries as possible.

Multiple entries may be placed on the same tape provided that:
You MUST leave 15 seconds of blank space between entries and
You MUST clearly label the order of the videos including each video's title and category.

Failure to follow these rules will result with us either only using the first entry on the tape or complete disqualification.

1. Entries should be submitted on a CD or DVD data disc. Playable DVD or CD are also acceptable but are not preferred. This is to better facilitate making the contest master DVD. Due to challenging logistics with VHS, we are not accepting them at this time.
2. See Online Submissions below for details.
3. Videos are to be uploaded in AVI, MPG or, in a worst case scenario, WMV format - no exceptions
4. Videos cannot exceed 200 megabytes in size
5. Even if you are still submitting online, please be sure to e-mail a txt or snail mail a printed copy of your entry form for all purposes.

If you have any questions feel free to contact AMV contest staff.

Please note that while digital entries and mail-in entries are accepted, digital media disc is the preferred form of submission. If you wish to enter digitally, files are recommended to be 720x480 AVIs preferably encoded in HuffyUV video codec.

However, any codec that is compatible with Adobe Premiere is acceptable. If you have any problems encoding with this please send an e-mail to the contest coordinator.

Tales of Anime and its judging methods are final. Prizes will be awarded only to those in attendance at the convention, though any submission will be entered for the contest.

Certificates will be mailed to non-attending winners. All other prizes will only be distributed at the convention itself.

Please label (print or type) your tape with your real name, email address, and the video's title.
On a separate sheet of paper, please submit:
- your real name
- pseudonym for publication release
- snail mail address
- email address
- indicate yes/no for website linking (include url if yes)
- submission type
- song title & artist
- name of video
- name(s) of anime footage used
- Category under which you wish your video to be judged under (comedy, drama etc etc)

Include this form with your video. If submitting via the online submission process, you must mail in the form to the address listed below or attach a txt file to an e-mail for the contest coordinator.

Mail-in entries must be postmarked by March 10th. On-line submissions will no longer be accepted by March 15th, 2007. No entries will be accepted at the door.

ONLINE SUBMISSIONS

For those who wish to submit online please go to http://www.yousendit.com (YSI) and use their tools to upload and send your video to the contest coordinator at amv@talesofanime.com. Please note that video sent using YSI MUST be under one gigabyte in size (so we suggest using mpeg-2 for best quality). After you upload your video file, send a second e-mail that contains a text attachment with all the entry information as dictated above. Please note in your second e-mail that you sent the file via YSI so the coordinator can properly organize the videos.

EDIT: It seems that YSI has lowered their acceptable upload size, so until we find an alternate upload location, please send your video files (under 1GB, please) to user tpod at MediaMax. Afterwards, please send an email to amv@talesofanime.com with the information requested above.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

MAIL-IN SUBMISSIONS

Please send entries on DVD or VCD to the following address:

You'd need to ask the AMV Chair, Anthony, at amv@talesofanime.com. :)

Thanks for the heads-up -- I'll let Anthony know. :(

I may have to volunteer the use of my MediaMax account in the meantime....

Until we get it straightened out, feel free to submit vids to tpod at MediaMax

Thanks!
