Possible AMV Contest
Generation Ankoku.com is now thinking of starting an AMV contest. But before we start we would like to know how many people would be entering.
How this contest will work.
To enter the contest you will have to pay $1 to a Secure Paypal Account.
There will be 3 judges to these AMV's. Which will be 3 of the Admins at Generation Ankoku.
The AMV's will be hosted on Generation Ankoku.com for downloading and viewing.
We will then say the winners (1st and 2nd).
If you get first you will get 75% of the money that was used for entry.
If you get second you will get 25% of the money that was used for entry.
THIS IS A NON PROFIT AMV CONTEST!
Now I'm very new to this, so if someone could give me some pointers about legal responsiblities or anything of that type. Please send an Email to me at Evilfuzzer@gmail.com or leave a reply to this topic. Thanks.

Please reply with a YES answer if you will enter the contest (saying that you may pay $1 to enter the contest)

As much as I hate to admit it, jaddzia is right. Swag would be a better prize and often you can get the anime companies to donate it. Even if they won't, a contest that was free to enter and only had a stupid printed certificate as prize would do better than a contest with a cover charge regardless of what you do with the cover.
Plus as a first time contest you're going to have problems getting enough decent entries to begin with. Make a charge to enter will make it that much worse. Many will avoid the contest on principle sake. Others couldn't join just because they don't have and refuse to get a paypal account. Still others find filling out a freaking form and mailing something in on time difficult enough without having to remember to paypal something as well.
Besides there's enough bitching and whining about mistakes contest makes (and being your first contest there will be mistakes made), judging, the 'wrong' video winning, etc. as it is. Get money involved and that'll be a lot worse.
And, final thing to thing about, we're talking $30 or $40 bucks. Max. It just isn't worth the hassle for that.

I'm going to have to agree with godix and jaddzia on this one as well. Money is not a good idea at all.godix wrote:As much as I hate to admit it, jaddzia is right. In gaming "money pot" tournaments are extremely common. There's nothing wrong per say with your idea. Instead of just giving the winner the cash as they suggest buying anime dvds to mail to the winner might be a better idea.
For that you'll need a lot of people to enter though, and unless it's at an actual con you might have trouble getting people trust you even with their 1$.
Good luck with your contest.
