AHH we just do that at a staff meeting... I imagine it would be a fair way to do it which gives it some purpose though. I dont think its unintelligent I just prefer to keep public screening to a minimum. But we all known im anally retentive about that kind of stuff anyways I even seal the ballot boxes until all of the votes are going to be counted (as if anyone even cares enough to mess with them) lol. To bad I wont be in the area or maybe Id stop by myself :)

KoP 2004: 6 tapes, over 150 videos, 11 hours plus.

And I can't wait to do it again. :D
Yeah, but ours were the 3 worst tapes of the contest - VHS and 'other' submissions. Hell hath no fury like 4+ hours of macroblocked Kenshin and VHD:Bloodlust vids...
Aw, you didn't get to see the whole contest? :(

(Actually, now that I remember, we didn't even watch tapes -- we played the videos directly off the hard drives that were overnighted there from Quu... or something.)

Remember, 2003 was Matt Pyson's last year, so we someone capable in charge of the prescreenings and were able to space things out instead of the mess Geoff caused...

It's not really that "public". It's always AMV clubs, creators, or staff. Not like it's Joe Blow Otaku that lives down the street and simply LOVES those DBZ/Linkin Park vids with the seizure causing flashy effects.

Someone asked about this being the first year the Prescreening were announced here, well you are correct. Everyone involved in the contest already knows about it. I don't see the point in trying to hide the pre-screenings from the org. If it helps to attract even one more reviewer who knows a little something about AMV's, then it's worth it.

Oh and as a reminder the First of four Pre-screenings at the University of Maryland will be this Saturday at 10am-4pm.

Wish I could, too bad they don't mail out the tapes anymore.
People gathered from around RI last time and we filled out the
few ballets like it was team event. The robotech - Dolley
parton video still gives me nightmares. Though the operation Cobra
video comes in close second.
