Melee's AMV had absurd quality causing amusement (ie: his introduction) which can be defined as humor, and since it occurred in his AMV we can call his AMV a comedy. His AMV even had more occurrences of humor in his AMV and you can tell this by crowd reaction. The crowd seemed more amused with Melee's absurdity rather than the Azumanga one... u can tell by comparing when the crowd was laughing... it was during Melee's and during Animebelle's, if u weren't there (it was more so during Animebelles of course.)

As for Borat being the Best Comedy movie... that depends on a persons taste of comedy. If you consider two guys fighting butt ass naked through out a hotel to be a humorous occurrence, then yes it can be a comedy, but to be the BEST it has to appeal to the populace, and in Borats case I noticed those who hated it out numbered those who liked it (I work at Block Buster, and that movie crossed too many lines, and offending people might be considered comedy to some but not across the nation.) So thats really not a good example. Instead let me know of something that some1 considers a Comedy and at the same time won't make that person laugh.

The winner for Drama/Romance kind of annoyed me, considering I know exactly why it won: it was very pretty, the end.
So yea eye candy is nice and all but IT TOLD NO STORY! I mean, the music didn't really adhere to the central story line of AIR, but yet it won because the shots that were chosen were the most visually stimulating that a person could find. This makes me angry because I entered a video for that category and mine told a story and it followed the song excellently, part of me feels cheated by the beatiful digital animation of AIR.
This is not to say of course that the video was bad, I really enjoyed it, and I'm looking to find it to see it again, in the meantime however I still feel a bit of resentment.
I'm sorry I just needed to rant a bit.
P.S. The comedy wasn't that funny, considering not many people laughed.
P.P.S. no the video I entered was not the one in my sig.. i dont have that one uploaded yet.

Thank you everyone for all of your compliments on our Me-Harmony video! I say "our" because, even though I was the one who went to take the award, it's because Ma Belle was taking a photo. It was a true collaboration and she put a ton of hard work into this video too. For anyone who wasn't at the contest, you can see the results of our twisted minds working together here.

I want to congratulate all of the other winners! And meleechampion, until you won, I was just sure the ladies were going to sweep all the awards this year.

But I really did love the whole concept of the "What the--?! This is 8min long!" cut. I had just leaned over and whispered to Ma Belle, "Oh, this song does pick up... in about six minutes."

Thanks again everyone! I'm glad you liked the video.

no... it just sux. I watched it, and thought it sucked, and thats all, and alot of my friends hate the anime too (the AMV contest just added fuel).

Mine didn't even get into the show, so I really wouldn't have cared who won, but I was looking forward to being entertained, and to see something so boring win Best Comedy pissed me off. Sorry I don't feel it deserved it. Not saying I deserved it either, cuz I was actually rooting for my friends AMV for that category instead.

But CrescentTearDrop... I understand yer resentment, but from what I saw it was rather sad even though there wasn't a story, and me having never seen Air b4 felt it still deserved Best Drama. I would have cried if I had a pair of tits. Even if it was mostly relying on the affects from the anime, you can't blame it for that. Good quality animation is what we're all looking for. You don't expect anyone to make an Dramatic Music Video to "Home Made Movies" cuz the animation sux, so then why attack something some1 made because of the source footage they selected?? Their entitled to pick what they want, and if you can't overcome an AMV that relies on the pretty anime footage, then maybe you still need to do some work... besides that was the only dramatic AMV I saw, so maybe yours was just too much and got filtered out like mine (just speculating). I do agree though that a storyline in a Drama/romance AMV is extremely helpful, but what you decide to show can affect your AMV. I've seen plenty of beginners use the subtitles of a show in their AMV to try to explain the storyline. Not saying u did this, but in my eyes this is a HORRIBLE idea, and an example of what I'm talking about. In the end its about looking professional, and still being able to get the message across. Best Drama did this, and I was very satisfied with it.

On a side note, I've heard enough about "comedy award" this "comedy award" that. Did you guys forget that it was a best "comedy/parody" award? It was a fine little parody, even if it didn't cause uproarious laughter. It was also another category with a handful of entries (that got shown).

ehh... I guess I'm just looking for laughter from that category. I mean even parodies are usually done in jest, so I was really expecting something funny. Just look at Weird Al if ya don't believe me.

I know theres nothing I can do about it though, but in my opinion I just thought it wasn't deserving, so I'm gonna leave it at that.

I won the Best Comedy/Parody Award a few years back at Jacon for a video for it's "Parody" aspect and not it's "Comedy" aspect...
