I know how it's judged, I'm just personally disappointed since I felt there were a lot more deserving entries.Lord Rae wrote:Correction... Best Overall of the pro contest. Which was voted on by the 60 or so people who entered videos into pro. It happened to get the most votes which is just the way Pro is judged. Its not a overall definition of quality for all videos entered into AWA. Purely subjective and purely at the whims of the videos that made it through nominations.Jeff wrote:Ugh, Apple Tree won best of show?
I voted for it though... cause it for me was the most enjoyable out of the ones that were nominated for best overall.

Grats to everyone who won .
and shouldn't I be Iron Editing? Since I was the winner in 08 and only missed last year cause of immigration issues

I don't know what other cons you keep up with, but CDVV has won awards at no less than seven conventions just this year (some, even, with the same videos that won at AWA), about even distribution between the winners being decided by a panel of judges and audience voting. AWA Pro is the only one where we could even affect the voting in the slightest, and I'm not sure how you think we'd get "preferential treatment" in Expo. So unless we're somehow pulling the strings at half a dozen or so conventions, I believe that we are winning fairly. Why does AWA stand out? Perhaps because, despite your idea that CDVV is from Chicago (in fact, up until a few months ago, I was the only one), we are from all over the US and Canada and we send to many different local conventions depending on where we live, but AWA became the convention where we would all converge and hang out....and so more of us send videos to AWA than to those other cons.zeiram_00 wrote:(at least at AWA, 'cause i haven't really run into them much at the other contests i keep up with).
Have you considered that maybe, like you, others also enjoyed the vids, voted for them, and that's how they won?And its not that i have a personal grudge with any of the people, if you've read my reviews you'll see that i actually enjoyed/liked some of their videos, just don't like the preferential treatment their vids seem to get because they're "big name / famous" editors.

They are collectively known in the AMV community as the Illinois Mafia. They were the real ones behind Rod Blagojevich scandal.zeiram_00 wrote:CDVV: it's not really just the CDVV people as much as the Illinois area editors i kinda lump together as being the same group and just use CDVV as my general naming for that whole group.

I voted for The Apple Tree for best of show/overall. This does not make me a bad person. I just liked the music, atmosphere, and the action film scenes put together. Yeah, it's shiny, but hey, I can dance to it just fine.
I will admit, it was a coin flip for me. I enjoyed both "The Apple Tree" and "None of the Above". For once I called it right on the coin flip. I did have several people come up to the table during the Sunday request blocks to have "The Apple Tree" reshown. I guess other people liked it a lot, too.

I voted for "None of the above" mostly because that was my favorite from the contest. I did like the apple tree though.Brakus wrote:I voted for The Apple Tree for best of show/overall.
