Re: Otakon 2009 AMV Contest Rules
Uploading now! I'm so glad I decided to check the forums! I'd been keeping an eye on the site and hadn't seen any news and then checked here to realize I only had a week left! Good thing it was pretty much done!
Well *crosses fingers* third time's the charm, eh? At least I went for one of the least-used categories this time rather than most used.
Good luck everyone!

I can't blame you there. It would be too much stress to try to get it in now and even then, you probably wouldn't be able to make it by the deadline. I'm glad you were able to get a few things off of it before complete hard drive failure though.Pwolf wrote:I've decided to send an older video I had no intention of sending to any cons but I am curious to see how well it would do. Luckily it was moved off of that hard drive As for getting the data back, I am going to keep the drive until I can afford to get it recovered. Last time I had to do it, it cost me $300. This time it's a more advanced issue so it will most likely be upwards of $1000. And honestly, those videos are worth that much to me.Melichan923 wrote:Oh no! That is horrible news! Sorry to hear that Pwolf... I always look forward to your AMVs and it looks like I'll have to wait to see some of your new stuff. I hope you still have the motivation to restart/re-do the ones you lost. I heard there is a way for professionals to recover lost data on failed hard drives but it's massively expensive and it's not guaranteed to recover all the files.Pwolf wrote:bah... since the video I was going to enter is gone (hdd died) I was going to enter another video I already completed... the master and mpeg2 contest copy are on the same hard drive >.<
Always remember to back up your stuff!
I did manage to get the premiere project file and some of the avs scripts off of it before it was unreadable so I could re-rip the dvds but at this point it's too much work when I'm already swamped with other responsibilities. I would need at least another week to get everything ripped, finish filling up the timeline, and then fine tune my edits. Just not enough time.

Ouch, $1000 huh? I knew it would be expensive, but I wouldn't have guessed that much! It's a shame that they won't be premiering at Otakon this year, but I'll be keeping an eye out for them later on when you upload to the org. Good luck with your data recovery and I hope everything works out for you.

If at first you don't succeed, try again in a few minutes. The FTP server/signup page comes out of my house, so when my cable modem loses sync, it goes down for a minute or two.RolltheStampede wrote:the "Otakon FTP Signup Page" is currently down.

Re: Otakon 2009 AMV Contest Rules
Why is my video 20,795,897 bytes on the disk, but is 20, 795, 611 bytes on the FTP client? Can I verify if I sent in the wrong file?
