Re: Otakon 2009 AMV Contest Rules
I sent the form and received the confirmation. I tried to sign in to the FTP permission request site but they didn't have my info.
1. Do they clear all the previous year's info from the records?
2. Where do I register for "new" FTP permission?
Maybe my eyes aren't catching it on the Otakon site but I'm a little lost...

Re: Otakon 2009 AMV Contest Rules
...For some reason I was convinced I'd be one of the people on the "problem" list.
Reading the names of all the studios always brings a smile to my face.
...Mmm...I suppose, instead of giggling over studio names I should do something productive...
Or maybe I'm just hiding from my brother's watching of the Super Mario Brother's Show?

Windows shows you different sizes different places. Right-Click file - properties. Two sizes. Open a windows explorer window set to 'details' another size.Pinkjacketaddict wrote:Why is my video 20,795,897 bytes on the disk, but is 20, 795, 611 bytes on the FTP client? There's no "Video Received, But No Form" section so I'm assuming I'm in the clear, even though I didn't get a confirmation e-mail for my form submission.VicBond007 wrote:Here's a list...

Disk clustering. You'll notice there are always 2 file sizes. Actual size, and size on disk. Don't worry, we got the whole thing, not that 0.2 KB is going to make a difference.Pinkjacketaddict wrote:Why is my video 20,795,897 bytes on the disk, but is 20, 795, 611 bytes on the FTP client? Taken right from the rules on the website:deuceloosely wrote:1. Do they clear all the previous year's info from the records?
2. Where do I register for "new" FTP permission?
1. "All names from last year were deleted, so even if you submitted a video last year, you will still have to sign up again. This keeps things clean and ensures that I grab the right video out of your directory!"
2. "You may sign up for an FTP account at any time by going to the Otakon FTP Signup Page." (http://otakon.homeip.net:21001)
I'm still watching the videos on the projector. They look fine on the PC, but that doesn't mean much. There is no "video received, but no form" list because if I get a video, and don't receive a submission form for it by the deadline, I don't even process it, it goes in the trash. Last year I got an AMV uploaded to me named "OtakonAMV.mpg" and the user signed up with a temporary e-mail address so I could not contact them. At that point, if there's no form to match it, I don't feel like it's my responsibility to look up every single Gundam Wing video ever created in hopes of finding the creators0matic wrote:There's no "Video Received, But No Form" section so I'm assuming I'm in the clear, even though I didn't get a confirmation e-mail for my form submission.
If you do not get a confirmation e-mail from your form submission, then your spam filter is eating it. The webserver that hosts my database is not in the same network as otakon.org, so when I send an e-mail from my server, using the otakon e-mail address, some spam filters will toss the message. This is no excuse for not sending an entry in though, as the FTP registration system is totally separate.
Confirmation of receiving your video is slower because I do not send them out until I actually test them through the netstream on an interlaced display. No point in me saying "everything is good" when there's a chance that it won't play at the con!
Also, just because you're not on the list, doesn't mean there were no problems, it just means that I was able to fix them. I think I've only dragged over 8 or 9 entries that didn't have to either be re-encoded, or have something corrected like aspect ratio, field order, credits-to-be-removed, wrong color space, etc. I can't fix quality issues though, so if you sent us crap, it'll still look like crap. I can't wait for a time when people realize that if they don't steal their footage, they have an amazingly better chance at getting into a big contest. Oh ho ho dear prescreeners, we are in for a treat this year -_-

I had to send the form twice. The first time it bounced, and it gave me an error message. The second time it gave me a confirmation page, but did not receive a confirmation e-mail. If I have to guess the reason I didn't get an e-mail probably has something to do with the first bounce. Though I don't know.
