I'm not against that, but I think that sometimes it takes a brutally honest person to just come out and say the truth that everyone is secretly hiding.
Who is this "everyone?" And I don't think anyone here has anything against "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything" policy.
Immortalarena, I fully intend to sound like a sore loser here (I'm very upset). Myself, my online circle of friends and my college anime club friends all think that your submission SHOULD NOT HAVE WON.
The only opinions that matter here are those of the judges and perhaps the community at large here on this thread at "the org." It's real easy to play armchair quarterback when you haven't seen every entry for this round (which was another tough one, and I agree the winners shouldn't be left to choose the music for the contest).
1. Bad image quality (the frames skip several times in places that don't make sense. We're still debating whether it was bad compression or you were trying to make the video follow the beat of the music).
I didn't notice that being as much of a problem as you make it out to be. Looked okay to me, anyway...
2. NO SHORT SHORTS! This is the biggest clincher. Your video had no short shorts in it. End of discussion.
This, to me, is nit-picking. I think the concept was well-enough represented that it deserved to win as much as anything else I've seen entered to this point. You're taking the lyrics too literally, methinks. My original idea was to piece together a bunch of FMA clips representing how short Edward is next to everyone else, but I think my final idea worked better. The idea is to have fun with this.
3. Bad lip-syncing. Myself and my friends counted three separate incidents of lip-syncing being a whole TWO SECONDS OFF. One second is bad enough. If you can't lip-sync, don't try. It just ruins the video.
Again, you're nit-picking...and perhaps exaggerating the point a stretch. None of the syncing was anywhere near as far off as you proclaim. The entry in question was as well-synced as most anything else I've seen come from this entire contest.
4. Simply not funny.
I left the rest out because it came across as kind of mean-spirited. No, it wasn't really funny, but this song was, as I mentioned before, a tough one. The past few rounds were really difficult to find much humor with, but remember the other descriptive which stands as criteria for judging: entertaining.
In conclusion, I think that Haunter103's concept was spectacular. I never expected to see Excel in there. Great job, especially with the lip-syncing.
That's as may be, but I feel the truly deserving entrant won that round (16). It was
very funny.
Not to be a hypocrite or anything, but what makes your entry any better than the winner's? Seriously...it wasn't funny, either. I mean, no matter how long you might have worked on a piece, if it's mediocre then all the time in the world invested in its creation won't change that fact. I only spent maybe an hour on mine and I think it turned out quite well. But that's just my opinion...
and you're certainly entitled to yours. Let's just not continue the ripping on others' efforts 'lest you care to have the same ill wind blowing down your door.
Just saying...
