Actualy your not that far off, the Henry B Gonzalez Convention center and the Grand Hyatt can actually fit 2 A-kons in it. lol But yeah, I mean as an example of what A-kon has for its own AMV Contest/Showcase by having its own all-day room. Wait, you mean each voter (ideally) gave a score to EACH video?AnimeFunTV wrote:In all fairness, 70 voting cards is not a lot, but each voting card has 34 slots for each amv that is aired so that's actually 2,380 votes I have to punch into excel and then do a formula on which AMV has the highest score. Also, I much rather count the votes than have someone else do it, If there is a mistake, I much rather take the blame than saying "oh it was a volunteer who did it, not me."
Even if that is probably fairer than allowing each voter to vote for only one video in each category like most places seem to do, it's no wonder that the attendees didn't want to take the time for something like that.
If you kept the audience voting but changed the system to something simpler, you'd probably get a better voter turnout while requiring less work on your end to count everything up.

Indeed it is more fair than other con's, but yes it takes more time to go through each video and make a score. Still, even if any difference process of voting they will still have to SEE each video and give a score which is the same thing, just this time instead of just 30 videos to go through (San-Japan 2.x & :3), it will now be up to 48 videos they will have to go through. What we think in a AMV competition everyone who gets selected for the Top 12 AMV's (or Top 10) should be able to get its score no matter what people think of it. That is why there is such a difference between what is Editors Choice, and Peoples Choice. Some people at this year's voting didn't think it was fair for the Editors to 'pick and choose'. Unfortunately though it is not feasible have everyone in the audience vote on over 80+ videos that were submitted to the contest. So we have to break them down to the best ones, aka Top 12 or Top 10Scintilla wrote:Wait, you mean each voter (ideally) gave a score to EACH video?AnimeFunTV wrote:In all fairness, 70 voting cards is not a lot, but each voting card has 34 slots for each amv that is aired so that's actually 2,380 votes I have to punch into excel and then do a formula on which AMV has the highest score. Yea - I can see why nobody filled them out. That's a lot to ask from viewers. What's wrong with a simple ballot?

Again, it would make no difference since the viewers will still have to see each AMV and make an assessment on it.

I think you misunderstand the point of the simple ballot, the point is the audience picks the one they want to win, not "how to rate" each video. Sure in a way it's flawed, but they don't have to "think of how they want to rate each video." It's simple for the audience to go "I liked this one" and simple to count as you just tally up the votes. Sure it's not "as accurate" but it does make life easier for both parties.AnimeFunTV wrote:Again, it would make no difference since the viewers will still have to see each AMV and make an assessment on it.

The "watching the whole contest" part isn't the ridiculous part, it's the "putting a number next to every single video" part. Sure, your categories might be twice as large as what most cons have, but there's half as many of them. ~30 videos is pretty standard, and most cons manage to get enough votes to feel like the people spoke (or are good enough at hiding the voting irregularities that nobody notices).

Yeah, I thought the system was unwieldy when I was voting, and that it took more fun out of watching the contest than it was worth.BasharOfTheAges wrote:The "watching the whole contest" part isn't the ridiculous part, it's the "putting a number next to every single video" part. To be honest, the process worked fine the past two times for the contest, mostly because it wasn't that many video's. I could do just a reaction vote like other con's, but then again thats not perfect assessment on which video got the best reaction. I was just trying to keep things fair and balanced by giving each video its own opportunity to be voiced by someone who liked it or not. Its also not like I blaze through the videos too, I normally have a 2-5 second pause between each video for people to catch their breath and write down a respectable score for your video. I also considered our process much more accurate than other cons giving us a bit more of advantage in our results.
