just to pont a few things out, the distrubition isn't that bad in terms of muliple nominations for vidoes.... the most is 5, followed by a few with 4 and then 6 with 3... then there are 15 with two and 15 with one for a total of 40.... So no one can say any said video is nominated in the majority of categories :? :P

Actually, no. We're followed by a concert this year, not the cosplay contest. That's later.

Then what the hell kind of video is it already?

I mean, "Adult" has a "hentai" connotation to it.... and personally I didn't find the video funny at all, nor did I think the video was intended to be funny.

This is the beauty of AWA Pro... you get these videos that don't fit neatly into a predetermined category.....

I thought it was a comedy when Brett showed me the Pro DVDs :?

If I were using the .org's classification system, I'd probably put it under "Parody". But since that's not a Pro category, I suppose Comedy would be the closest thing that fits.

Aw, crap.... that's probably the Yoko Ishida concert, isn't it. Damn. That means it's likely exactly opposite the AMV Iron Editor, and as such I won't get to see the concert. :( I'll hope that it's the Magic Peas or whatever the heck the other music act was concert instead...

Though maybe it won't be a problem- thinking about it, the awards ceremony must be earlier this year if there's time for a concert between it and Cosplay. Seriously though- does the Cosplay at AWA get a decent attendance? I have no idea, since I've always been at the Iron Chef/Editor during it.
Lots of stuff about the finalists in the contest
By and large, I thought the finalist list was pretty good. 40 out of 56 of the videos made the finals in one category or another (from Vlad's summary- I also made up a table of everything but it's at home and not here at work). I think I would have liked to have seen the category be 'Parody/Trailer' instead of just 'Trailer', and was rather surprised to see there not be a 'Best Various' like there has been in the past, but those are fairly minor things.

There are some videos nominated in categories that I don't agree with- but that's no surprise, I'm sure everyone has at least one they feel that way about. From my own observations of the discussions here and elsewhere, I definitely have some suggestions I'll pass on to Wagner after the contest is done and the con work behind us. I think there need to be more checks and mechanisms in place to try and prevent, for lack of a better word, potential 'wankage'. In a relatively small pool of people voting (56), I think it's far more of an issue and a problem than the other contest where it usually shows up (the VCAs), and needs to be more seriously addressed. Part of the rules for Pro stipulate that we're expected to behave and treat this professionally, and that should mean that this doesn't happen- but I'm far from wholly convinced that it doesn't still go on.

Well, I have heard it suggested that the video in question be re-encoded at 2-3x speed so that if it wins, at least it would fit into the stated maximum time limit for an entry.

I actually watched the video on 2x/3x speed... It's STILL very long that way.

'Believe so, yes.

Hell if I know... I never get out of the room...

Neither Parody nor Various had anywhere near enough participation to be included. I was a little surprised at how this worked out too... Instrumental had hella-high participation, but several nominees weren't technically instrumentals, so I had to change the title.

You're welcome to PM me now... just realize how long it might take for me to get back to you.

Actually, this was covered in the rules. In the case of an extremely long video winning an award, a select portion of the video will be shown during the ceremony. We anticipated difficulties like this years ago...

That was the ONLY video I found myself having to press the fast forward button. It was interesting for maybe the first two parts but then it just wouldn't end. And it's not like it had anything to do with the other parts, it was like a bunch of partially finished videos all mishmesshed together.

God, if that makes it into the awards I'm using that as a bathroom break. . .
and maybe a snack break. . .
and maybe I'll go see a movie. . .

Lord knows I'll have the time with how long that video is.
