And my hopes are officially dashed. :? Anyway, good luck to all of you who do make it in! Can't wait to see! *^_^*
hmmm seeing this makes me nervous, being i am not all that seasoned on amv editing.
I wish to point out that DW and I both made it into the finals the first year we entered (2003), and I know we're not the only ones. Being unseasoned alone is no reason to get discouraged.

First time I entered in 03, I got nearly banned for using the "p" word. I used a dvd player hooked to the back of a Casablanca. How far I've come.

Still trying to lick that avisynth though.

I think we're all trying to lick avisynth XD.
And you know, I wasn't nervous about entering this year at all...until this thread. But, either way, make it in or not, I had fun making the video and that's what counts right? Right? XD

Because I'm an ego-maniac...

YOU FORGOT THAT I ALSO WON THAT YEAR PETER

On a more serious note, he's correct. I'm pretty sure Peter was also a 'rookie' that year, but somehow we were lucky enough to get in our first years and it was a pretty unbelievable experience. I might be remembering incorrectly, but one of the posters above (Junipertay) also go in her first year and I think won the next year.

In short, don't be discouraged and even if you don't get in...still don't be discouraged. The con is good times.

Hey Vic,

Would I be able to find out which category I was viewed in? I put not sure on the form cause I was between Drama and Action.

Thanks again man!

Finalists will obviously be listed per category. Non-finalists that will be shown at overflow only are not sorted by category, so there's no distinction during overflow screenings. We'll just mix things up.

If you don't make finals, I will reply to any request as to what category your video eventually made it into, to satisfy your curiosity. I will not type out all 135 videos. I draw the line somewhere.

Fair enough, that is quite a lot of videos

Thanks for the response

You are correct on both accounts!

I fully agree that being "unseasoned" does NOT equal "untalented" by any means. But I also see how the experience of having a few videos under your belt helps. I look back at the first vid I submitted to Otakon (my first vid, period) and it was FF7: Advent Children, 16:9, and I didn't do anything to correct the aspect ratio. So I submitted this stretched and un-letterboxed vid...whoops! Yet I still made it into the contest---so don't give up hope!!

And Dwchang is right---if you don't get in, don't be discouraged. Enjoy the contest and see what videos you like and why, and keep that in mind the next time you start editing.
