All I can say is - y'all are making it VERY HARD for us when we have to select just two Judge's Choices this summer to send to the Nationals among all the awesome videos we've gotten so far.

And for those of you who can actually make it to Albuquerque this weekend, you're in for a treat! Sabaku Con's given us a two and a half hour block of AMV goodness to fill, so we'll be showing an exhibition of all sixteen AMV League Nationals finalists thus far in addition to the amazing entries for Sabaku's event! Don't miss this chance to see some of the best AMVs made this year up on the big screen!

Don't forget - just two more contests this year and two more chances to send your videos to the AMV League Nationals! Click here to enter Anime Blues in Memphis and Click here to enter San Japan in San Antonio!

The results are in from Sabaku Con!

BEST OVERALL - "FREEWATCH!" by Maboroshi Studio

HONORABLE MENTION - "Do the Dandy Walk" by James Blond

FINALISTS:
"Duel Commandments" by Goober
"Our Season Encounters" by Magicflier
"Inverted Maps" by AMV-X
"Future (Diary) Husband" by Shorisquared
"Center of Attention" by xGeminii
"These Two Vectors" by Zandersen
"Still Here" by AMV-X
"100 Reasons" by Eny
"Warrior Inside" by AMV-X

It... might take a while to get amvleague.com updated, though, as we're leaving for another con in two days and won't be back until the 24th of May. If I come across some spare time and reliable internet, be sure I'll be working on it. ^_^;;

Um, I just want to correct you, b/c I was sure I previously put this in the video information as well; but "Our Season Encounters" is a collaboration with a friend. It was suppose to be "Our Season Encounters by Magicflier&Ryokii93" :!:

Well that is a horrible mistake. xD
Seems like it's too late to fix this at this point, so congrats toward the winners!

Re: AMV League - SEASON 3 BEGIN! New events, new rules

Post by Pathos Prime » Mon Jun 06, 2016 11:15 pm

Alright, the time has come -

We are proud to announce the launch of our first AMV League Season 3 Event!!

Get your videos ready as we return to Tsubasacon in Huntington, WV at the end of this September!

This is big because we've retooled some of AMV League's rules for Season 3!

What's changed? Well, here's the TL;DR of it:

The biggest one is that we have split Comedy and Trailer/Commercial categories into their own national-level contests, as we rarely received enough Comedy videos to justify a separate category (and Comedy entries always ended up either completely dominating or completely buried), and Trailers/Commercials are different enough from music videos to where they need their own criteria for judging. What this means is that we will be doing three contests at the end of Season 3 - Best AMV of the Year (containing Action, Drama, and General), Best Comedy AMV of the Year, and Best Trailer/Commercial AMV of the Year.

Videos submitted to the Comedy and Trailer/Commercial categories will be showcased at the convention to which they are submitted (unless they have been shown at that convention before - see the limited resubmission rules below), but NOT be considered for any award until the AMV League Comedy and Trailer/Commercial National Championships.

Questions we're sure y'all will be asking:

HOW MANY COMEDY AND TRAILER/COMMERCIAL VIDEOS CAN I SUBMIT?
One per AMV League Event, to a total maximum of three Comedy videos and three Trailer/Commercial videos per editor in a single season.

MY COMEDY VIDEO IS REALLY GOOD; I THINK IT COULD WIN AT THE CONVENTION!
If you want your Comedy or Trailer/Commercial video judged at the individual convention level, please submit it to the General category.

IF I SUBMITTED MY COMEDY OR TRAILER/COMMERCIAL VIDEO TO A PREVIOUS AMV LEAGUE EVENT, CAN I SUBMIT IT AGAIN BECAUSE THE OLD RULES REALLY SCREWED OVER THESE TYPES OF VIDEOS?
We've gone around and around on this one, and we've finally settled on these conditions.
If your video was: Any Commercial or Trailer video or Any video submitted to the Comedy category and rolled into General or Overall for that contest due to lack of Comedy submissions and did NOT win a "Best" award at that convention, then you MAY resubmit your Comedy or Commercial/Trailer video ONCE under the new rules to be judged at the AMV League Nationals. However, this WILL count toward your limit of three Comedy or Trailer/Commercial videos per season, AND if you resubmit your video to the same convention where it had been shown before, it will NOT be exhibited again UNTIL the Nationals, so that the audience doesn't get confused and wonder why they're seeing the same video they saw last year. This resubmission option will expire at the end of Season 3, so resubmit now or forever hold your peace.

===============================

We've also retooled the scoring system. We've removed the "Encoding" and "Bumping the Lamp/Effort" scoring criteria. Encoding ended up just being a free 10 points to any competent editor (we'll now be taking points for encoding errors such as resampling and artifacts out of Aesthetic Appeal), and as for BTL, it proved to be too difficult to really judge how much effort it took to create a video. Sometimes the things that take the most effort are the least noticeable, such as the lamp-bumping in Who Framed Roger Rabbit? for which the category was named.

We've combined "Flow/Cohesion" and "Editing" into one category, as these ended up being more or less the same thing.

"Technical Prowess" has been renamed "Special Effects" because that's what that category ended up being anyway.

And addition of the "X-Factor" category, so that judges may give slight boosts to otherwise enjoyable videos that might not score high in some of the other categories.

And last, we'd added some clarification on some auto-disqualification rules, such as permission to include relevant, editor-added subtitles, and specifying that, no, you can't just cover the subtitles/watermarks with black boxes or pixelation because seriously why do we get so many submissions that do that.

As always, full detailed rules can be found on our website.

Good luck, and happy editing!
