That would be hard to do I think.
It could be set up so if a video qualifies for multiple categories then it would only get to be in the category it got the most nominations for. I guess.. I have no clue how much coding it wuld require though...

Yeah, I asked AD about this before nominations started - but it wasn't a 'workable' idea. Viewers' choice - if they think one vid should win all categories, that's the way it will be.

One solution - next year count the vids you know will win and limit the categories. No point having 22 categories if you're only going to have 11 vids winning - especially if you know ahead of time that some vids are going to win in multiple categories. Some of the categories were very similar, so it makes sense that the same vid will win for both (or all) of them. For instance - drama and sentimental, or comedy and fun, or artistic and effects (they may be written differently, but to the viewer these go hand in hand). Personally I'm surprised artistic and original concept weren't won by the same vid since the two categories are so similar (what is an artistic vid if not one using an original concept?), and the chances of having a horror vid that doesn't apply to the action vid category? People have said that horror = dark action, why have two separate categories? I don't think it was that too few vids won so much as that the categories were broadened with the hopes of having more vids - when in reality, the viewers can't distinguish.

Next year - action, romance, comedy, effects, character profile, trailer - start adding more and you know they'll be so similar people won't be able to distinguish between them (for those who actually try to go by the descriptions).

Well, an artistic video doesn't have to have an original concept... though it does generally have to be an original video. I'm pretty sure somebody (*cough*Nightowl*cough*) could make an LBZ video focusing on the hardships of Goku or Vegeta artistic with enough time.

Which is why I think horror should be changed to dark. Not dark action though. Something like Storytelling would fit perfectly. Although, the problem with this is that people will nominate the dark action videos anyway because those will be most popular. :?

all you have to do is ask the creator after the voting is over "which category do you want to win the most" and then for the rest of the categories take second place... not that hard.. but thats just a suggestion for next year...

Seriously though, I don't think the results were very good. It was very much a popularity thing in my opinion. The only one I agreed with was "The World She Knows" getting Best Character Profile, since it is a very good video. Besides that, meh.
So are you trying to imply that all the winning videos were thus "not very good?" That's what I gather from this statement. Feel free to disagree with the results, but that came across as pretty mean to all the winners including myself.
Indeed. Would you rather the end-of-the-year awards be chosen by judges so you can complain about elitism?

There was a two-step process in choosing the winners, and several thousand people all had their say. Not only is it insulting to the creators that you wrongfully badmouth their videos, but it's insulting to the voters when you say that this was nothing but a popularity contest.

Sorry for the late response. I actually forgot I posted here ^_^;;

Honestly, I didn't think the videos that won were that great. That's *my* opinion. I'm allowed to dislike videos, ya know. I'm also one tough cookie to impress. Don't take it personally.

As for you dokool, I dunno why every reply to a post of mine by you is about elitism. If I insulted voters, that was not my intention. My intention was to report what I thought of the results. And yes, I do believe this is a popularity contest. Why you may ask? If someone makes an amazing video but never says a word about it, it will not win. It may be better than everything in the contest. It's all about getting your popularity out there so that people will see the video and nominate/vote for you. :roll: Come on.

I never thought of myself or my video of being popular. :| I'm sure DW, AD and Koop are a lot more popular then i am, but i'm just Pwolf... only a handful of amv chat people probably really care about who i am. i already know some people at hypeo and here don't quite like my video nor me. i had to pimp my video becuase i thought not that many people would even consider a video created while the last VCAs where going on and by a guy who made sucky videos for the past 3-4 years. so i don't think it's just a popularity contest. but that's just my view on it... so i dunno what people really think :|
